Head of women's football at the FA, Baroness Sue Campbell speaking to BBC Radio 4: "Well ever since Phil Neville came in, he’s not just worked very hard with them physically, technically, tactically…but most importantly he’s worked with them on this approach that says they can be the mentally toughest, the most resilient, the most focused and confident team without becoming arrogant, without becoming over confident.

"And that’s unquestionably the difference. This is a team who steps onto the field of play and genuinely believes they can win, against anyone. And I think they’ll take that onto the field tonight."

    England v USA (20:00 BST)

Three of the four joint-top scorers in the World Cup are in action tonight.

American pair Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe have both scored five goals. England's Ellen White has also netted five.

Alongside Australian Sam Kerr, they lead the race for the Golden Boot. At least one of them will be playing in the final at the end of the week but will they get their hands on another trophy?

Steph Houghton has grown immensely into that role as captain. At first, she was very honest about it and it's difficult being the figure head of 23 women as there are more dynamics involved in female sport.

Her goal line clearance against Norway was brilliant and she just cracked on after picking up an injury in the Cameroon game. She is the epitome of this England team and she has been one of the best players.

  9. 'Phil Neville seems to be the missing piece' - Smithpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

I also asked England's record goalscorer Kelly Smith if head coach Phil Neville was the missing piece to England's jigsaw.

She said: "It seems that way, he has a good group of players to work with and he’s brought it together nicely. He's not put a foot wrong so far. He’s rotated the team, protected his players, everyone seems fresh and hungry and in interviews he’s saying we are having fun, and if you can’t have fun you shouldn’t be here.

"It’s an experience he’s relishing because he never got to be at a World Cup as a player. Even as a manager he is soaking up all the new experiences."

I said a lot before the game about one v one battles being key tonight.

You have got world class players going head to head all over the pitch and it's about looking at your opponent in the tunnel and saying 'I'm going to get the better of you'.

  12. The pink hair strikes againpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    England v USA (20:00 BST)

It was all about Megan Rapinoe.

The United States forward dominated last week's news for her comments on the White House, before scoring twice in their victory over France.

It was the perfect response from Rapinoe, who was booed by passionate French supporters every time she touched the ball in the opening stages of that quarter-final.

After categorically stating she would not be going to the White House to greet Donald Trump if the USA were crowned champions, Rapinoe heightened her rock-star status with a heavy-metal performance against France and sent her side into the semi-finals.

There will be times they can slow the game down but it has to all be focused.

  15. 'It gives you a taste of it'published at 18:16 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    England v USA (20:00 BST)

The last time these two met in March, it ended in a 2-2 draw but England came away with the SheBelieves Cup trophy on American soil.

And Phil Neville says that result gives his side confidence tonight.

"The March game was a good game for both teams. We played really well and that game gave us great confidence and belief.

"We were the ones that stood on that platform and lifted that trophy. When you win something, it gives you the taste of it and this time the prize is even bigger."

    England v USA (20:00 BST)

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

England's record goalscorer Kelly Smith kindly had time for a word earlier today between her punditry duties for Fox Sports in America.

The former Arsenal striker said about tonight's game: "Whoever wins this game will go on and win the World Cup. This is the toughest test for both teams.

"I can't call it because we’ve seen lapses in England’s defence at times but they have started so well in games. The US always have a threat, are the number one team in the world and with their mentality, you cannot call it either way. I don’t know who’s going to win."
