We'll be back with more this coming weekend with another set of intriguing matches on Saturday.

What a fantastic night for Rotherham, who scored late on - and I mean late on - to stun Queens Park Rangers by 2-1 and pull level on points with Reading and Wigan above them.

Millwall also had a big night, beating Birmingham City on the road to haul themselves clear of the bottom three. Two goals from Ben Thompson earned them a 2-0 win.

Norwich City saw off Hull City's spirited fightback to win 3-2 and overhaul Leeds United at the top of the Championship.

West Bromwich Albion's first game since Darren Moore's departure finished with a thumping 3-0 win against Swansea City, while Derby County returned to the top six themselves after a goalless draw with Stoke City.

Middlesbrough are the only side from the top six not to pick up a point this midweek round, they lost to a Preston side now just two points behind Derby after a 2-1 win.

Outside chance hopefuls Aston Villa dented Nottingham Forest's hopes and boosted their own with a 3-1 win at the City Ground.

FT: Norwich City 3-2 Hull City

    FarkeImage source, PA

Norwich boss Daniel Farke speaking to Sky Sports:

"The result is actually ridiculous, it should've been 6-1 or 7-2 or something like that.

"I'm happy in the end because we got over the line but we basically got punished for the only two errors we made in the whole game - football is unfair sometimes.

"It's always important to score goals early like we did and Hull are a good side, but we were just brilliant - the game should've been done at half-time.

"Emiliano Buendia has special quality and a magic touch. Tonight he really was fantastic."

Chris Brunt, Mason Holgate and Jay Rodriguez score the goals as West Brom win at home in the league for the first time since Boxing Day.

It was their first game since Darren Moore was sacked as boss on Saturday and means a winning start for first-team coach Jimmy Shan who's in interim charge.

Whether there'll be a new man by the weekend is a different story.

Former England man Jay Rodriguez scores from close range to make this one safe - a real striker's goal as he strokes home a loose ball in the area.

Albion on their way to ending that long wait for a home win in the Championship.

Villa win for a third game in a row and move up to eighth as it stands.

They are just two points off the play-offs while Forest drop to 10th and are three points off the top six.

    Middlesbrough 1-2 Preston

    Preston cellyImage source, Rex Features

I can only imagine the internal combustion which will be burning away under Tony Pulis' tracksuit tonight, after his Middlesbrough side imploded having established a comfortable 1-0 lead against Preston.

Ashley Fletcher's goal gave them a deserved advantage at half-time, but when Daniel Ayala was dismissed for a foul on the edge of the Boro box just after the hour, it proved to be doubly costly.

Preston's Paul Gallagher swept a fine shot beyond Darren Randolph from the resulting free-kick, and then with 10 to go, Jayden Stockley pounced as Boro froze to score the winner.

Boro's stumble continues, but for Preston it's onwards and upwards in 2019.

    Birmingham 0-2 Millwall

BIG win for Millwall, ending a four-game losing streak.

Two first-half goals from winger Ben Thompson are the difference. A superb away performance from Neil Harris' team.

It's successive defeats for Birmingham and a big blow to any play-off hopes they still harbour.

    QPR 1-2 Rotherham

    AjayiImage source, Rex Features

All over and Rotherham win away from home for the first time in this Championship season!

A huge result for the Millers in their fight against the drop and Semi Ajayi's two late goals get them three points to move level with both Reading and Wigan.

The travelling contingent enjoy celebrating that result with the players.

    Derby 0-0 Stoke

Like the Derby Twitter account, I could just put a padlock emoji up here, but that's not what I'm being paid for.

Basically, Derby hit the post, the bar, Jack Butland and a stream of legs, shins and feet but could not breach Stoke's dogged and determined defence.

Butland was awesome at times, his defenders equally so with brave blocks, and they continue their revival on the road.

Derby move into the play-offs with this point, but it's a missed opportunity given the chances they enjoyed.

    Norwich 3-2 Hull

    NORWICH BACK TO THE TOP!

Daniel Farke's side made this harder than it needed to be. A truly dominant display, but for two five-minute spells.

All that matter for the Canaries is that they're back at the summit thanks to Emiliano Buendia's brace and a Marco Stiepermann strike - Marc Pugh and Chris Martin on the scoresheet for Hull.

That's five straight wins for Norwich by the way and that's a great delight to Delia Smith.

    Semi Ajayi (90+5 mins)

Scenes at Loftus Road for Rotherham in the fifth minute of stoppage time!

It's Semi Ajayi with the goal once again and a bullet header at the back post from a searching free-kick.

That is surely the three points in the bag for the visitors.

  15. CLOSE!published at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

    Norwich 3-2 Hull

Marc Pugh has probably THE chance for Hull! He should've passed to team-mates in support but skies form 25 yards out.

It could be victory for Norwich, seconds left...

  16. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

    Derby 0-0 Stoke

Almost the 'best til last' from Harry Wilson from the resulting free-kick. Derby denied by the crossbar!

Stoke exhale... Derby look to the skies... into stoppage time.

    That was the chance!

  17. Postpublished at 21:35 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

    Derby 0-0 Stoke

Jayden Lawson is scythed down by Stoke stopper Ryan Shawcross, right on the cusp of the area and the Derby players pile in looking for a penalty.

Outside the box. Free-kick though, right next to the white line of the 18-yard box...

  19. Postpublished at 21:34 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2019

    Middlesbrough 1-2 Preston

Preston might have had a killer third, as Sean Maguire's driving run down the right saw a toepoked shot saved by Darren Randolph, and Daniel Johnson could only blaze the rebound over.

Johnson by the way, has a rather Rapunzel-length ponytail going on. It's like a stallion's tail, let alone a pony.

    Nottingham Forest 1-3 Aston Villa

John McGinn inches away from completing his hat-trick for Aston Villa.

Runs at the Forest back line with intent, cuts inside from the right, takes aim low but strikes the base of the left post and the ball bounces clear.

Seven minutes added on at the end of the 90.
