Brighton defender Shane Duffy: "We had a game plan which worked for periods, it's hard to take and they have real quality.

"We have talked about this game all week, this is more important than the semi-final but it was always going to be difficult. It's more important to stay in the league but we got undone by quality.

"We are always confident in our squad, it's a strong group. We can get through bad patches."

When big players miss out on big competitions they get a bit disgruntled and they start talking to each other. Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli are big players and when they get disgruntled, other clubs will come sniffing. We can't allow that to happen and if it goes south, big questions will be asked and it will get tense.

"I didn't mean the goal really, in the end it all counts. I meant to hit it hard in front of the keeper - when it's in it doesn't matter."

City midfielder Phil Foden: "It was good to get the start. It was a dream come true to start in the Premier League. I think I needed a bit of Kev's luck to score.

"I think I did well. A little mistake at the end, something to learn."

De Bruyne adds: "Phil is doing very well. He's very talented. I know there is pressure on him, our team is world class and you have to prove yourself and that's what he's doing."

Apart from the last 15 minutes of this game, Spurs were quite comfortable. It lacked tempo in the first half but they started to find it in the second half. Moussa Sissoko was their best player and his temperament helped them. The clean sheet is very important for the confidence of the defence. It's a satisfactory performance on their return home.
