Johnny Magrinho: Liverpool desperately need a back up for Firmino. Sturridge is so far off the pace it's embarrassing watching him try to play football and Origi just never plays well enough. Can't blame Klopp for trying Gini up top the other night - what other options does he have?

  9. Klopp getting involvedpublished at 20:38 British Summer Time 4 May 2019

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at St. James's Park

Jurgen Klopp - as usual - has been fired up on the touchline.

Daniel Sturridge has been getting an ear-bashing, as did the fourth official when Mo Salah was cleaned out in a tackle, although the Liverpool manager was swift to order the Egyptian to calm down as it looked like tempers could boil over.

Klopp will at least be happy with the scoreline so far.

  10. 'Very strange half'published at 20:35 British Summer Time 4 May 2019

    Newcastle 1-2 Liverpool

    Mark Lawrenson
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Very strange half, almost three parts. Liverpool scored and seemed to be in control. Then all of a sudden Newcastle went forward and got a deserved equaliser. It felt like a cup tie at that point and then Salah then put Liverpool ahead again with a fine finish.

Liverpool are generally in control but they do look a bit vulnerable defensively when Newcastle go forward.

Looks like maybe Trent Alexander-Arnold should have been booked, but not sent off.

This is from the FA's rulebook...

"If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution / send off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution / send off must be issued when the ball is next out of play, except for the denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity when the player is cautioned for unsporting behaviour."

    Newcastle 1-2 Liverpool

    Gary Flintoff
BBC Radio 5 live reporter at St James' Park

It looks like there are some Liverpool fans in the posh seats just behind the press box. It appears they celebrated when Mo Salah scored Liverpool’s second and the home fans sat nearby are clearly not impressed.

  17. Postpublished at 43 mins

First Newcastle attack in a while, Salomon Rondon is picked out with a long ball and does well to hold off two defenders before getting a shot in, which is saved by Alisson.
