A real sense of emotion in the air as the Celtic team coach arrived at the foot of the Celtic Way. The players emerged led by manager Neil Lennon and captain Scott Brown as applause swept through the large crowd that had assembled to greet them, gathered around the statue of Billy McNeil holding aloft the European Cup.

A poignant moment as captain and manager laid a wreath at the statue as the crowd burst into a spontaneous and heartfelt rendition of the Celtic Song as the players then made their way up towards Celtic Park.

It will be a poignant affair, with a minute's applause held before the match in memory of the former Celtic captain Billy McNeill, who died last week, aged 79.

McNeill's family have urged Celtic fans to commemorate his life in "cheers, songs and applause" this afternoon.

His family say football stadiums were not "built to be silent". The Celtic first team will wear black armbands "bearing the number five to recognise Billy's iconic number that he always wore with pride".
