    They have arrived

The arrival of Liverpool's team bus is an event in itself.

Thousands lined Anfield Road to welcome it, with the obligatory red flares being let off as Jurgen Klopp's men made their way into the stadium.

There was a lengthy chorus of the Liverpool anthem 'allez, allez, allez' to accompany them.

Everything is set. If today goes Liverpool's way, the atmosphere will be absolutely incredible.

I started to fear for Manchester City against Leicester. They weren’t as slick and you thought 'surely not' when Vincent Kompany lined his shot up. Kasper Schmeichel started looking behind him to the stands.

Pep Guardiola was really uptight in that game, you could see he was worried and agitated. He’d have his face in his hands and turn to Mikel Arteta and realise he couldn’t do that [show his concerns] and go again. They’ve had to dig deep. They haven't played as well – last season was a canter.

Player of the season: Virgil van Dijk. It almost goes without saying, doesn't it? The PFA Players' Player of the Season. Our centre-half, our number four. It's fair to say that Liverpool would not be where they are this season without Van Dijk.

Signing of the season: Alisson. Fabinho was the name fresh on my mind after the win against Barca, Naby Keita had started to kick on before his untimely injury and Xherdan Shaqiri has given us some magic moments, but it's hard - literally and metaphorically - to look past the big Brazilian.

Goal of the season: Divock Origi against Everton. There have been some wonder goals scored by this team in 2018-19, but in terms of importance an almost forgotten man may have claimed first, second and third spot. His brace against Barca has sent Liverpool to Madrid, and his goal against Newcastle has allowed us to keep dreaming until the final day, but his goal against Everton has the added spice of being a 96th-minute winner against our closest rivals.

Disappointment of the season: Everton 0 Liverpool 0. Staying on the the Merseyside derby theme, and without wanting to go back on what was said in my opening gambit, the goalless draw at Goodison in early March was a sickener.

Mark for manager (out of 10): 10. It's hard to see what more Jurgen Klopp could have done this season. He couldn't have got any more out of his lads and has dealt with the morale of arguably our deepest ever squad perfectly.

Mark for season (out of 10): 9. It could yet be a 10, it arguably should be a 10, but with trophies not yet guaranteed it's hard to give it that extra mark. The Reds have broke records this season and can be proud of what they have accomplished until now, but I'm sure they won't be resting on their laurels and will be targeting the perfect 10 finish to the season that we all crave.

The echoes of 1989 are all around Liverpool today - The last team to be top going into the final day of an English top-flight season and not win the title were Liverpool in 1988-89.

    Can they reverse that today?

I am seeing lots of Man Utd fans hoping it's Lukaku's final game today. I don't understand why he gets so much hate. He has had virtually no quality service all season playing in front of a very sub par midfield. Just look at his record for Belgium who have players who can cross a ball. Selling him would be a mistake.

On Scott Parker becoming Fulham boss

I think it was hugely significant. That’s not to say they would have survived if it had happened earlier.

You saw a change. I’m pleased for him. He went to Spurs and put in a bit of a shift there.

But he fell on his feet with this job. There’s a lot of players who have gone further down at lesser clubs to try to start their managerial career.

All you can say is him coming into a relegated team takes the pressure off him a bit. And he’s got a tune out of them. He knows how to lead. I’m glad a club like that have given him an opportunity.

It takes time to accept that United have to go back a step and rebuild. I don’t think their supporters and sponsors, the size of the club, will accept that. I fear for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I don’t see them giving him that time.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made a valid point at the start of his programme notes.

"The job for all of us today is to make sure the focus stays here on this game. This is the only game we can affect. These are the only points we can win."

It will be very interesting to see how emotions play out on the touchline.

If Liverpool score before Manchester City, it would make for a very interesting afternoon.

Glorious sunshine at Brighton, crowds milling around in their thousands already - this has the feel of a huge occasion.

Brighton's safety is assured so how will they approach it? Will they be mentally on the beach or will the handbrake be released for a performance that will provide one last twist to this thrilling title race?

Brighton manager Chris Hughton says in his programme notes: "It's an exciting prospect for everyone at the club to be playing in such a high-profile last match, but our objective remains the same in every game - to find the best way of getting a result."

It’s been the worst possible week for Man Utd. Liverpool are a team you want to play for. Chelsea can’t bring players in but Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp are managers you want to play for.

United is a rebuilding job. Their biggest thing is recruitment and signing players. They are either going to go one way - paying over the odds for players or accepting it’s a longer process and go younger. They can’t sign the top, top players anymore.

A week of two incredible comebacks.

A weekend when an epic title tussle will reach its climax.

A season that will see four English clubs meet in European finals... but, for once, instead of writing such headlines, Manchester United are noticeable by their absence.

Second last season and seemingly back in the pack, they're miles off the pace again.

With a summer of comings and goings predicted, this could represent an Old Trafford farewell for several donning the famous red jersey.

But will it be Cardiff manager Neil Warnock's curtain call?

After relegation at 70, retirement may yet beckon but he would miss football - and football would certainly miss him.
