    The doomsday scenario had opened up before our eyes: 1-1 against Cyprus. Everything we thought and hoped for for Steve Clarke's new bold reign was shredded.

    [Had it finished 1-1] Scotland's chances in the group would've been obliterated. But, fair play, they didn't create much on the night. But when they needed salvation, they got it.

    It was an incredible leap by Burke.

    Italy's Twitter account described that victory as "a perfect, professional display" and they're not far off.

    They did the damage in the first half - scoring all three goals before the break.

    The Azzurri now sit top of Group J with three wins from three. Three points clear of Finland, their nearest rivals.

    Seconds later, Scotland come roaring forward as McGinn - keen to atone for his error - frees Stephen O'Donnell, who clips a shot over Pardo but inches wide of goal.
