It's lifted over the top to Raheem Sterling and the England winger instinctively turns and chips it over the keeper.

The first save was instinctive but the second was fantastic, down to his right-hand side. Some of the ball must have been on the line. It was fantastic by Ederson to keep himself alive to get that second ball.

  3. GREAT SAVES!published at 73 mins

    West Ham 0-2 Man City

How has this not gone in!?

Pablo Fornals' cross from the right hits Javier Hernandez' thigh and bounces up towards goal.

Ederson does very well to scrap it away before Manuel Lanzini heads the rebound back towards goal.

The Brazilian keeper gets up quickly and palms that effort away too.

After all the transfer speculation this summer, including a rejected bid from today's opponents, Wilfried Zaha starts on the bench for Crystal Palace against Everton.

Ederson tries to play a long ball forward to Riyad Mahrez but the Algerian has just run offside.

    Excellent delivery though!

  6. Postpublished at 71 mins

    West Ham 0-2 Man City

Manuel Lanzini jinks his way through a few challenges but doesn't get past Riyad Mahrez on the left.

He's appealing for a foul, again, but the referee waves it away. City then give the ball away on the edge of the box and Lanzini finds it at his feet again.

He chips it into the back post but there's nobody attacking it.

That was a goal, a great goal. The fans knew it was a goal, the players knew it was a goal, but two of Sterling's arm hairs were over the line so.....

    Russell, M20

How many fantastic footballing moves and goals are going to be struck off by the new rules. VAR alone not the issue, just the rules it is being applied to.

    George

I thought VAR was for clear and obvious mistakes?? millimetres in that and no advantage gained.. gonna have to start wearing skin tight shirts if that's the bar set.

Clear and obvious error?! What a joke. Obviously no one will care as it's City but goals being chalked off for that are the beginning of the end.

    Dan

Please tell me VAR hasn't been introduced to disallow goals where a striker's little finger is offside?! Absolutely ludicrous, and I'm no City fan, I assure you.

    Ady, Leicester

So gone are the days of any offside "benefit of the doubt" to the attacking team. Absolute joke to disallow that.

Wale Ibraheem: We asked for it, we got it, welcome to the world of VAR.

Robin Schmitt: That's why VAR was introduced. Correct the errors that have been made as the margins are just so fine.
