  1. Early team newspublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 10 August 2019

Bournemouth v Sheffield United (15:00 BST)

Bournemouth are without injured players David Brooks, Dan Gosling, Lloyd Kelly, Simon Francis, Lewis Cook and Junior Stanislas for today's season opener.

Summer signings Jack Stacey, Philip Billing, Harry Wilson and Arnaut Danjuma could make their debuts.

Sheffield United have a fully-fit squad, with defender Jack O'Connell recovered from a recent injury.

Lys Mousset, who has joined from Bournemouth, is one of several summer signings in line for their debut.

It is quite a surreal experience making the journey from the media room to the press seats.

You step out onto the concourse and people are grabbing onto the railings, hair and caps blowing everywhere thanks to the strong winds swirling around the stadium but head inside and it is a balmy summer's day with the cauldron-style interior shielding the stands and the pitch from the elements.

Conditions are good and with two teams keen to play eye-catching football, we should be in for a real Saturday lunchtime treat.

Tottenham v Aston Villa (17:30 BST)

Aston Villa's summer transfer signings have made a lot of sense, and they have also got good momentum after the way they came up from the Championship - although I cannot see it helping them too much today.

I think Spurs will be far too strong for them, but Villa still have the best chance of staying up of any of the promoted teams.

    Prediction: 2-0

West Ham v Man City (12:30 BST)

For the sixth year in a row, it's a seriously tough opening game for West Ham, but I don't think a 'free hit' to kick off with is a bad thing, especially when there should be optimism about the season ahead.

Transfer business looks to have been good, whilst keeping Declan Rice and having Manuel Lanzini and Andriy Yarmolenko back to fitness are key factors.

At Wembley last Sunday, Manchester City looked as though they've got another couple of gears to find but they surely will soon enough.

They might not find the start of their latest title defence a breeze though, with a forecast for potentially game-altering strong winds at the London Stadium.

I think this game will be close. Bournemouth play good football but Sheffield United will work hard, and they like to pass it too - they won't launch it.

  7. Early team newspublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 10 August 2019

Crystal Palace v Everton (15:00 BST)

Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha has been named in the Eagles' squad despite him being unhappy about the club denying him a deadline day move.

Gary Cahill, Victor Camarasa and James McCarthy could make their debuts but James Tomkins, Mamadou Sakho and Jeffrey Schlupp all remain sidelined.

Everton new recruit Fabian Delph misses out with a thigh injury, while veteran Leighton Baines is doubtful.

New signings Moise Kean and Jean-Philippe Gbamin could be involved.

Crystal Palace v Everton (15:00 BST)

This fixture may well be the tale of two forwards, one of who is said to be furious after being refused a transfer and the other who will almost certainly make his Premier League debut.

Palace's Wilfried Zaha was the subject of two failed bids from Everton, whose signing of 19-year-old Italy international Moise Kean was surely one of the most exciting moves of the summer.

The Eagles have to show an improvement in their home form, while Everton are aiming for a top-six finish. Both will be looking to pick up where they left off in May, having each won five of their last eight matches.

Tottenham v Aston Villa (17:30 BST)

Tottenham's new signings Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele are available for tonight's game, but Ryan Sessegnon will not feature due to a hamstring problem.

Spurs are also without Dele Alli, Serge Aurier, Ben Davies, Juan Foyth and Son Heung-min, but Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama are back in full training.

  13. 'They could do with a victory'published at 11:55 British Summer Time 10 August 2019

    Burnley v Southampton (15:00 BST)

    Alistair Mann
    MOTD commentator

These two finished both a place and a point apart in last season's bottom six, having flirted with danger during the campaign.

Twelve months ago, with their Europa League exploits seemingly hampering them, Burnley ended the opening month in the relegation zone - it took them until late September to secure their first win.

With Arsenal, Wolves and Liverpool their remaining August assignments, they could do with a victory against the Saints to avoid a potential repeat of last season's sequence.

The two sides have drawn their last three meetings, and with Ralph Hasenhuttl having now had eight months to make Southampton a much more resilient outfit a fourth successive stalemate seems highly possible.

The last time City lost on the opening day was at Villa Park in 2008-09, with Gabriel Agbonlahor scoring a seven-minute hat-trick as Villa won 4-2.

Not exactly a classic City kit that one. And who'd have thought that, at the age of 31, both Micah Richards and Michael Johnson would be retired.

Indeed, after leaving Villa this summer, Micah has joined our team and he'll be making his debut today on BBC One. Click here to see him on Football Focus from 12:00 BST.

Watford started with four straight wins last season, but they became very inconsistent - and were very difficult to predict!

I saw Swansea under Brighton boss Graham Potter a couple of times last season and they always built from the back. When they got it right, they looked really good.

Watford's Gerard Deulofeu has recovered from a muscle problem, while Roberto Pereyra could play a part despite a busy summer at the Copa America.

Danny Welbeck has a long-term ankle injury, with Nathaniel Chalobah, Adalberto Penaranda, Domingos Quina and Dimitri Foulquier all also not fit.

Brighton could give competitive debuts to Neal Maupay, Adam Webster, Leandro Trossard and Aaron Mooy.

Jose Izquierdo, Ezequiel Schelotto and Yves Bissouma are all injured.
