We haven't heard too much from our best mate - VAR. But it is involved in the Premier League this season.

The new system wasn't called upon in last night's opener at Anfield but it could play a role today...

Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 10 opening Premier League fixtures (W9, D1), winning each of the last eight.

Victory here will see them equal Chelsea’s record of nine successive opening day wins between 2002-03 and 2010-11.

Burnley were affected by the Europa League at the start of last season but I am expecting them to be a lot more like their usual selves straight away this time.

Southampton will be up against their former striker Jay Rodriguez, who rejoined the Clarets from West Brom in the summer, and I don't think they will have an easy afternoon.

West Ham v Man City (12:30 BST)

So there we have it, West Ham striker Sebastien Haller is making his debut.

The Hammers have strengthened their squad this summer, bringing in a number of attack-minded players.

French striker Haller was brought in from Eintracht Frankfurt in a club record deal worth up to £45m.

Spain forward Pablo Fornals joined for £24m from La Liga side Villarreal.

And West Ham also spent £8m on Swiss striker Albian Ajeti from Basel. The 22-year-old netted 15 goals in 35 games in the 2018-19 season.

Also new to the books is Spanish goalkeeper Roberto and 18-year-old centre-back Goncalo Cardosa.

Toughest job of the morning at the London Stadium? Being a scarf seller. This picture doesn't really do it justice but it is blowing a gale here.

West Ham fans love a flair player and the new-look West Ham attack of Sebastian Haller, Pablo Fornals, Manuel Lanzini and Felipe Anderson promises to have plenty of that, but they may struggle to do their thing in these conditions.

Burnley's new recruits Jay Rodriguez and Erik Pieters might be involved, but Danny Drinkwater is unlikely to feature as he has not played for a year.

Winger Robbie Brady is out with a rib problem, while midfielder Steven Defour is sidelined by a calf injury.

Southampton could give debuts to summer signings Che Adams and Moussa Djenepo.

Former Birmingham forward Adams could start alongside Danny Ings, who made his loan from Liverpool a permanent switch over the summer.

In three seasons we have had three ACL injuries. He’s young and he will recover well hopefully in terms of the surgery next week.

"All the people will help him. He will feel alone so we will help him to feel as comfortable as possible."

  14. Hitman Haller?published at 11:16 British Summer Time 10 August 2019

West Ham v Man City (12:30 BST)

    Gary Rose
    BBC Sport at London Stadium

Sebastien Haller features on the front of the programme and it is fair to say hopes are high for the striker to be a big success.

No Premier League club has gone without a striker scoring 20 league goals in a single season longer than West Ham, with the last player to do that for the Hammers being Teddy Sheringham back in 2004/05.

Haller hit 14 goals in 27 games for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, but he is not setting any targets in his programme notes.

"I have to adapt to the Premier League, to my teammates, to the city, everything," he writes. "You never know how long it takes and from this time we can maybe know what kind of targets we want."

  16. 'It looks like being an eventful opening contest'published at 11:12 British Summer Time 10 August 2019

Tottenham v Aston Villa (17:30 BST)

    Steve Bower
    Match of the Day commentator

With new names in abundance, there's no shortage of excitement and anticipation in both camps.

After two non-active windows, Spurs fans can look forward to fresh talent added to a squad that has secured four successive Champions League campaigns. The big question now is whether they can get closer to last season's top two. There will also be an element of increased expectation.

It will be fascinating to see how Aston Villa integrate 12 new faces into a team that finished fifth in the Championship last season. Will they be able to find some stability and consistency that eluded Fulham in a similar situation 12 months ago?

Either way it looks like being an eventful opening contest.

  19. City spirits high despite travel concernspublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 10 August 2019

West Ham v Man City (12:30 BST)

    Gary Rose
    BBC Sport at London Stadium

A power outage across England and Wales yesterday evening presented an unexpected concern for Manchester City and West Ham fans, with the issue causing chaos on the trains and roads.

Perhaps wary of potential delays, there were plenty of Manchester City fans milling around Piccadilly Station before the birds had even finished their dawn chorus this morning and the early train down to London Euston was a busy one.

But the feared travel concerns never materialised for these early risers as the train we were on got away on time. City fans were in good spirits on the way down south, despite Liverpool's thumping win over Norwich last night. The conversations I overheard were less focused on domestic success and more on what City could do in Europe this season.

Could this be the year they enjoy success on all fronts?
