Mata has already done more in this half than Lingard has managed in 2019.

    Southampton 0-1 Manchester United

Danger man Daniel James now pops up in the middle, the 10 role if you like, and cracks off another 20-yarder which Angus Gunn has to tip over. Bright, sharp stuff from the visitors.

Goals change games. Southampton looked excellent until the goal, now they can't put two passes together. SETTLE.

Don't be fooled by 3 goals in 4 games - Daniel James is not Premier League quality and never will be. He might be Tom Daley quality though.

    Southampton 0-1 Manchester United

Lovely touch from Juan Mata plays in Aaron Wan-Bissaka but his shot is as rash as you may imagine, the former Palace man stays up there though and then has a volley at the follow-up cross - over the top!

That goal has rather taken the wind out of the Saints' sails. Sofiane Boufal does lead a promising counter-attack but his final ball is tosh.

Pro Evo legend Scott McTominay gets the assist for that goal, by the way. It was a one-man goal though, if we're being honest.

United looking much better since the strike.

It's a great finish. He is full of confidence at the moment. James could be the signing of the summer.

What a start Daniel James has made to his Manchester United career.

Southampton made the fatal error of allowing him to cut in on is right foot but how he took advantage. Magnificent rising finish.

Exciting game now. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg shoots from a way out but gets it all wrong before Damiel James has another ping from range but it's a tame one and easy for son of Bryan to save this time.

You have to keep James on his left foot - you can't let him get inside like that. Southampton have been the best side but they are behind.

    Daniel James

    WOOOOOOFFFF.

Manchester United may well have signed one here. What a goal that is!

Daniel James is given far too much time and space to cut in from the left wing and into the penalty area but the strike is sensational. Absolutely fired into the top corner. Angus Gunn a passenger.

Superb, superb goal from a player who is already looking like a bargain.

Southampton are now caught on the ball, Juan Mata able to find Andreas Pereira on the edge of the area but human wall Kevin Danso gets enough of a challenge in to shut him out.

Southampton have started really well. A good tempo from them and they have to sustain this. United are really struggling playing out from the back as Southampton are pressing them so well.

Sofiane Boufal is a new man, trying a Di Canio style scissor kick at the back post but shanking it across goal. Saints looking really slick, United lethargic.

  18. CLOSE!published at 8 mins

    Southampton 0-0 Manchester United

For all the stick Paul Pogba gets, that's what he can do, single-handedly taking United from their own left-back spot to the edge of the Saints area with a neat one-two and then a driving run, he has James Ward-Prowse hanging off his shirt for 30 yards there. Powerhouse.

But at the other end it's the hosts who go close, Sofiane Boufal shooting from 20 yards which arrows just wide!
