But after that bright Southampton start it's Manchester United who threaten first - Marcus Rashford almost getting on to the end of a pass from Daniel James but Janiik Vestergaard blocks well.

Rashford and Cedric Soares are both hurt in the ensuing collision. Medic!

Southampton haven't beaten United at home since 2003 - though they have been to League One and back in that time of course.

Just in time for kick-off the sun has vanished and it looks like rain is on the way.

  10. 'Home win looks inevitable'published at 12:19 British Summer Time 31 August 2019

Man City v Brighton (15:00 BST)

    Martin Fisher
    Match of the Day commentator

Only three weeks in and already the Premier League table looks very familiar with Manchester City and Liverpool top of the pile, although at the moment it is last season's challengers who lead the defending champions by two points.

Of course only a VAR controversy denied Pep's men their 100% record as they were held at home by Tottenham. That draw is City's only blip since January and it is difficult, near impossible in fact, to make a case for Brighton doing anything similar.

Under Graham Potter the Seagulls have made their best ever Premier League start but with Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero in such clinical form a convincing home win looks inevitable.

If you're just tuning in, Jesse Lingard is on the bench in a Premier League match for the first time since 30 March 2019, (2-1 home win against Watford).

Man United had a W2-D1-L5 record in the eight PL matches he started since. Scapegoat?

  13. 'Strikers with high standards'published at 12:14 British Summer Time 31 August 2019

West Ham v Norwich (15:00 BST)

    Mark Scott
    Match of the Day commentator

West Ham have picked up more points from their opening three games than in any of the previous five seasons, and despite scoring twice in their win at Watford, club-record signing Sebastien Haller wasn't happy with his performance.

Another striker with high standards is Teemu Pukki, who is already only two goals away from the total that Norwich's top scorer managed in their last Premier League campaign.

Both of the Canaries' defeats this season have come against teams that finished in the top four last term, but while losing to Liverpool and Chelsea isn't cause for concern, the number of goals they've conceded might be.

  15. 'Wilson could be the key'published at 12:11 British Summer Time 31 August 2019

    Leicester v Bournemouth (15:00 BST)

    Robyn Cowen
    MOTD commentator

Expectations remain high for Leicester this season, with Brendan Rodgers' side tipped to be the ones to break into the top six.

Their unbeaten start has increased belief and in James Maddison they have a genuine game-changer: no player has created more chances in the Premier League since the start of last season.

As for Bournemouth, one win from their opening three league games suggests they could be in for another inconsistent campaign, but they themselves have a midfielder capable of conjuring up something special in Harry Wilson.

He's scored in both of his Premier League appearances so far, and he could be the key if the Cherries are to win at Leicester for the first time since 1988.

  16. 'Chelsea have good record against promoted teams'published at 12:09 British Summer Time 31 August 2019

Chelsea v Sheff Utd (15:00 BST)

    Simon Brotherton
    MOTD commentator

Chelsea face newly promoted opposition for the second week running, after winning for the first time this season at Norwich last weekend.

Their record at home in the league against teams who've just come up is a predictably good one, with their only such defeat in the last 54 encounters coming against Bournemouth in December 2015.

Sheffield United have made a decent start to life back in the top tier but suffered their first defeat of the campaign last week at home to Leicester. Victory for Chris Wilder's team here would be a major upset and also their first at Stamford Bridge since their inaugural Premier League visit in October 1992, some 27 years ago.

William Henry "Fatty" Foulke was 6ft 2in tall and weighed 24 stone, he is the original subject of the chant "Who ate all the pies?", is the reason ball boys exist, once polished off 11 breakfasts in a sitting and on one occasion ripped a cupboard door off to confront a hiding, cowering referee... while naked.

It is the basis of a great story. Unfortunately, much of it probably isn't true.

  19. Lingard misses outpublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 31 August 2019

Southampton v Manchester United (12:30 BST)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at St. Mary's

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer talked up Jesse Lingard's qualities by explaining how regularly he is picked by both himself and England manager Gareth Southgate - so he is promptly dropped from the side to face Southampton at St.Mary's today.

United's attacking resources are thinner after Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez moved to Inter Milan, one permanently and the other on loan - but Lingard can have no complaints based on recent performances.
