  1. Does Bale deserve more respect?published at 09:27 British Summer Time 8 August 2019

Gareth Bale has helped Real Madrid to unprecedented European dominance, has scored decisive goals in the biggest matches and is arguably Britain's best footballing export.

Yet it appears his time at the Bernabeu is set to come to an end, with many fans happy for him to leave and manager Zinedine Zidane saying it would "be best for everyone" if the 30-year-old were to find a new club.

From the outside it seems bizarre - how can a player who would ordinarily be considered a club legend with all his goals and trophies be so unwanted?

Leaving aside the high demands of Real supporters - who also booed Cristiano Ronaldo at times, don't forget - BBC Sport takes a look at the Welshman's six years in Madrid.

As an Arsenal fan, I am really happy with our transfer signings. Pace, power, leadership and experience all coming in. I'd struggle to imagine such signings under Mr Wenger.

Has anyone informed Emery that Arsenal are supposed to be linked with big players all summer and then not sign any of them? This is unfamiliar territory for us fans.

The answer to our little teaser at 08:47 is, of course, Robinho.

City beat Chelsea to the signing of the striker back in 2008 for a then British record transfer fee of £32.5m.

"This is a real statement of intent as to the ambitions of this club," said Mark Hughes, City manager at the time.

Robinho scored 16 goals in 52 appearances for City before joining AC Milan in 2010.

Watch out for another guess the deadline day signing soon. I'll make it a bit tougher this time...

  7. 'Mooy is an interesting one'published at 09:02 British Summer Time 8 August 2019

    The view from the fans

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Scott McCarthy, WeAreBrighton.com: "Breakfast time hasn't even finished here in Sussex and it sounds like Brighton have already completed their first deal of deadline day.

"The player in question? Huddersfield Town midfielder Aaron Mooy who looks set to join the Seagulls on a season-long loan.

"Many Brighton fans feel that we need another body in the middle of the park, but signing Mooy is an interesting one. We've already got Pascal Gross and Davy Propper who can create chances - what we really need is a quality holding midfielder as Dale Stephens looked very much like the proverbial sheep in the headlights playing there last season.

"Mooy's arrival does at least boost the shiny bonce count in a squad sorely lacking in bald players since Bruno's retirement.

"It also means that Beram Kayal is surplus to requirements. Any Championship clubs needing a decent midfielder could do a lot worse than get on the blower to Graham Potter about taking him on loan."

Aaron Mooy to Brighton from Huddersfield seems to be a deal that could be completed this morning.

The Australian midfielder is reportedly close to completing a season-long loan move to the Seagulls.

Good move for Brighton, Mooy far too good for the Championship but a big blow for Huddersfield.

  9. Carson to Man City... it's happeningpublished at 08:57 British Summer Time 8 August 2019

City have already allowed Arijanet Muric to join Nottingham Forest on loan.

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Scott McCarthy, WeAreBrighton.com: "Up until last weekend, it had been a relatively quiet window for Brighton. Only Leandro Trossard had arrived from Genk and it looked like the club were relying on Graham Potter to get significantly better performances out of the same players who'd badly let Chris Hughton down by winning just two league games in 2019.

"And then...boom. Tony Bloom turned into Leonardo Di Caprio in that scene in Wolf of Wall Street where he's throwing money over the side of a boat. We broke our transfer record to sign Adam Webster from Bristol City and then 48 hours later broke it again on Neal Maupay from Brentford.

"Despite that splurge, we're still a couple of players short. Bruno hasn't been replaced since retiring so we need a right back and a little more quality in the holding midfield department wouldn't go amiss.

"With the Lewis Dunk to Leicester rumours refusing to go away, it could be a busy day down at the Amex."

  16. 'Transfers in his infinity gauntlet'published at 08:26 British Summer Time 8 August 2019

    The view from the fans

    Wolves

David Evans, Wolves Fancast: "Whilst opposition fans suggest Wolves should be moved to the Primeira Liga due to our large Portuguese contingent (cue Ace Ventura chuckle), Wolves are prepping for both domestic and european life.

"Nuno has bolstered his already impressive ranks with Real Madrid's Jesus Vallejo, AC Milan's Patrick Cutrone and the Braga tag team duo of Bruno Jordao and Pedro Neto.

"Molineux could do with another central midfielder and perhaps a wing back. Southampton's Lemina and Lazio's Wallace have already been heavily linked with moves.

"We're sure Uncle Mendes has some transfers assembled on his infinity gauntlet. Will he snap them into action? Let's see how his version of Christmas Day unfolds…"

  19. 'Broken record for fans'published at 08:18 British Summer Time 8 August 2019

    The view from the fans

    Liverpool

Josh Sexton, the Anfield Wrap: "Deadline day is becoming something of a broken record for Liverpool fans, so what I expect them to do and what they will do are two separate things.

"I'd like to think that if we're willing to let Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent go out we will replace them so we can have adequate squad cover for our forward options. But I don't expect them to do that. If they were working on a deal I would expect them to have brought them in already and it wouldn't be reactionary to those two leaving.

"I am really impressed in what Liverpool have done bringing two lads in who look promising in Van den Berg and Elliott. Replacing Simon Mignolet quickly as well with Adrian was good too. But expect it to be another quiet deadline day."
