  1. 'Bitterly disappointed'published at 16:24 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-1 Wolves

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is very hard to take. I am bitterly disappointed, We played well and create opportunities. You could argue we should have been further ahead. To get in a minute and a half of the final whistle, it is a major disappointment. We almost conceded in the last game as well so we can say we weren't warned. It was a deja vu situation. It gave them a point which after the first half they deserved but after the second we deserved the three.

"We had to play quicker and our passing was so much better second half. Overall I can't be dissatisfied with the performance but it is about results. Every time you get three points it is a great and every time you don't, especially when you concede late, it becomes a defeat and it feels like a defeat here."

    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on Football Focus

The Napoli defeat is a jab on the nose for Liverpool that reminds them they have to play at their best every week. I don’t know who is better out of Man City and Liverpool – the only reason one would fail is by dropping their guard and making individual errors.

  3. 'Lampard did an outstanding job'published at 16:23 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

    Chelsea v Liverpool (16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "Chelsea had some problems but they have sorted it well. I don't think they expected [to lose to Valencia]. It reminds me of my team in Dortmund a few years ago. Really young but they only played because they were that good.

"Frank Lampard did an outstanding job at Derby so I am not surprised by him at Chelsea. But it is a difficult league. I can see some people are not happy with some results but that is not because of him. He is a really good manager."

Arsenal v Aston Villa (16:30 BST)

    Kevin Nolan
Former West Ham captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don’t think Arsenal have strengthened enough. They need two centre halves especially as the one they signed in David Luiz is probably the least defensive centre half in the Premier League. They don’t need attacking centre backs – they need to be more solid.

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard on Jurgen Klopp: "I respect him hugely and it was a nice thing going up against him in the Super Cup. He doesn't mess about and quite rightly has got the success he deserves."

Liverpool need to improve on their performance against Napoli but this is a good fixture for them to do it. When you go and play one of the other big boys, you know you need to concentrate fully.

We're expecting much from this, games involving Chelsea this season have produced 22 goals and they’re yet to keep a clean sheet.

But Liverpool’s Premier League stats are remarkable.

One defeat in 44 league games. Unbeaten in 22 league matches. 14 straight wins

We’re expecting goals! Listen to commentary on 5 Live from 16:30 BST

Tammy Abraham has got a great knack from crosses of getting in between the full back and centre half. It’s not luck – he gets into the right place at the right time and I can see him getting 20 Premier League goals this season.

  10. 'Same old Arsenal'published at 16:13 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

Arsenal v Aston Villa (16:30 BST)

It was a case of 'same old Arsenal' with their defensive collapse against Watford on Sunday.

The Gunners still have a weakness at the back but, from what I've seen of them so far this season, I don't think Aston Villa have got the attacking power to take advantage.

  12. 'A starting point'published at 16:10 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-1 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to MOTD: "This is football. We have the spirit, the heart and the character to believe until the end. The boys were running up and down and tired.

"The growing of the team relies on these kind of aspects. We are in the situation where we play Thursday and Sunday."

What does the game say about character of your side? "It says a lot. We have done it before. In the Championship we managed to win games in the last second. I think we can do better in the first half. We need to reproduce again what we did in the first half to grow as a team.

"This is a starting point. What we did in the first half lets try to do over and over again."

  13. Kante return a huge bonuspublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

    Chelsea v Liverpool (16:30 BST)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Stamford Bridge

N'Golo Kante was badly missed in Chelsea's Champions League group game defeat against Valencia here at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday but he is back to give a huge lift to manager Frank Lampard.

This is Lampard's toughest test since his appointment, as they face the Premier League leaders who have won all five games, but Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, currently watching Chelsea warm up, will also know this is a tough assignment for his team.

  15. 'This happens in football'published at 16:06 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-1 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to Sky Sports: "This happens in football. The spirit of the team - we have it. First half was really good. When we speak of mistakes, it is from both sides. I am not happy with that. We controlled and dominated the game. When we have it so well we must punish. We speak about what can happen, with the reaction of Palace.

"We risk everything. Palace had chances and we made saves. It is not the game we like to see. But we had a lot of heart and character. More with the head, though.

"We know what the situation is. We have to play Thursday and Sunday and manage the game. We wish it to happen."

On Romain Saiss' red card: "First one I am not sure. Second one was close to me and the referee decided. The VAR also. If they see it clear they have to decide.

  16. 'High press needed'published at 16:05 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

Arsenal v Aston Villa (16:30 BST)

    Kevin Nolan
Former West Ham captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Aston Villa will go and attack Arsenal. They will try to make Arsenal make individual errors especially after they gifted Watford back into the game last week. Put a high press on Arsenal and their back four is likely to drop a clanger.

  17. 'Something has to give'published at 16:04 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

Arsenal v Aston Villa (16:30 BST)

    Martin Fisher
    Match of the Day commentator

One team can't stop conceding, the other have stopped scoring... something has to give at the Emirates.

Arsenal's sloppy second-half display at Watford was alarming and unless they cut out basic errors they have little chance of finishing in the top four.

After successive blanks, Villa will be hoping Gunners generosity will last a little longer. Dean Smith's net spend was greater than any other Premier League manager over the summer and overall he'll be encouraged by the way his new side is gelling, with lack of goals the only cause for concern.

I expect Villa's drought to end but I think Arsenal will outscore them.

  18. 'Every player can be important'published at 16:02 British Summer Time 22 September 2019

Arsenal v Aston Villa (16:30 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery: "I think every player can be important for us.

"Sometimes we are going to have one plan and we'll need to change that to use different players in each match.

"We have some new players and players who we need to work with for their adaptation in the next matches. Progressively, they're getting better."

Steve: No qualms investing in youth, but the senior players need to lead them. I saw one leader on that pitch today and that was McTominay. Sack Ole, sure. It'll change nothing until we get some experience with quality and leadership in.

Jonathan Powell: Man Utd team lost today because we are very average! It’s a mid table squad, with a few players that could be top four. A relegation manager. But we have have a budget of European champions. Another seasons going backwards by the looks of it.

Dave Payn: The last two minutes saw West Ham chasing the ball with more urgency than Man Utd and looking considerably fitter. Something seriously wrong at Old Trafford.
