  4. Plenty for Pep to think aboutpublished at 21:00 British Summer Time 22 October 2019

A strange half at the Etihad. City responded well after going behind and have the lead, but Pep Guardiola's experiment with three at the back did not work and now he has another injury to contend with - and he took his frustration out on his dug-out.

If Rodri is ruled out for any significant spell after pulling his hamstring, City obviously have another top-class defensive midfielder to replace him in the shape of Fernandinho, but will the Brazilian be needed as a centre-back?

It looks like it will be Ilkay Gundogan's job to hold things together in the heart of midfield tonight, and maybe for longer.

Bradley Bicknell: Spurs have to keep up this scoring spree in the match if they are to go through this CL group. Goal difference may well come in very crucial.

Only Wayne Rooney (23 at Old Trafford), has scored more CL goals at an English stadium than Sergio Aguero has at the Etihad (21).

Aguero has been directly involved in 20 goals in his last 19 Champions League starts for Manchester City, scoring 16 and assisting four.

I felt quality would come through. Tottenham have got a lot of top players that have underperformed and that is only temporary. We can talk about troubles in the changing room or issues with the manager - they were due that performance that we've seen in the first 45 minutes. It had pace, tempo, intensity, and their best players performing at their best level.

The third goal was a lovely finish. Great run as well from Harry Kane - he ran across the front of Ndombele once he had picked the ball off Marin. He makes a little run across him and all of a sudden it opens up a big 20-yard space for Son to run into.

He takes a couple of touches, has a look at the goalkeeper and strokes it past him into the near corner.

    A lovely, lovely goal.

Son epitomises everything that's good about this Spurs side. He's put in a wonderful shift alongside Dele Alli and Harry Kane.

  12. Son the stand outpublished at 20:51 British Summer Time 22 October 2019

    Phil McNulty

Heung-Min Son has been outstanding and fully deserves his two goals. Spurs had taken their foot off the accelerator slightly but that should end it as a contest.

Scoreline going their way but more injury problems for Pep Guardiola.

His makeshift centre-back Rodri has pulled up with a hamstring injury.

John Stones, just back from a thigh injury, is on. Pep Guardiola though as animated as ever. Stones, as he was getting ready sitting down in the dugout, Pep Guardiola slammed the back of one of the seats, was ranting and raving at him about something, calmed down a little then had a very animated conversation with him about something on the touchline.

    Son (44 mins)

Marko Marin has looked like a very tidy player for Red Star tonight but he treads on the ball on halfway while looking forwards and that's terminal.

Tanguy Ndombele drives forwards, plays in Son on the left-hand side of the area and he scores at the near post. Clinical.

SteveK: Whilst I like your confidence Lillie , it’s a little bit early. There’s plenty of time for it to go horribly wrong.

Qaaltagh: To Lillie O'Neill...The crisis is that Spurs have been playing abject football domestically and are in danger of not only missing out on top 4 this season but actually might struggle for 5th. Winning 2 nil at home against Red Star means absolutely nothing whatsoever.

Rodri had dropped deeper before he went off, so City were more like four at the back than three anyway... but they are definitely playing that way now John Stones is on, to form a centre-back partnership with Fernandinho.
