Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, speaking to BT Sport: "A tough match first and foremost. Ajax have had two really good results, we faltered at first but had a good result against Lille. This is a tough place to come and we have to be at our best.

"This is a club that is steeped in tradition and young players are part of that again and again. We are in a new cycle and this is a good test for the young players taking their early steps in Champions League football.

"They lost a couple of big young players but they kept a lot. People may have expected them to lose more but they didn't. I am under no illusions as to how difficult they will be - they were good last year and they are good this year."

Frank Lampard has handed five Englishmen aged 21 or younger their Champions League debuts for Chelsea in just two games this season (Mount, Abraham, Tomori, James, Hudson-Odoi) – the most by a team in a single season in the competition’s history.

    Ajax v Chelsea (17:55 BST)

Everyone loves an underdog story and Ajax were undoubtedly that in last season's Champions League.

The Dutch giants went from the second qualifying round to within seconds of reaching the final before they were knocked out with a last-gasp Tottenham goal in the second leg of their semi-final.

Unsurprisingly, their key players in that impressive run caught the eye and in the summer Ajax lost the spine of its successful team.

The most notable departures were defender Matthijs de Ligt leaving to join Juventus and midfielder Frenkie de Jong moving to Barcelona while forward Kasper Dolberg - usually a substitute last term - also headed to Nice.

Losing such talented players would be a big blow to any team, regardless of the amount of money brought in, but Ajax appear to be coping notably well.

They are top of the Dutch Eredivisie and have a 100% record in the Champions League so far. In fact, they are unbeaten across all competitions.

So who are the players Ajax coach Erik ten Hag has turned to in order to ensure continued success?

    Have a look.

Willian's experience will be key for Chelsea - you know what you're going to get and even if he is quiet, he can give you a bit of magic at any time.

Everyone knows his qualities and he's showed it year after year. It's no surprise that when he comes into the team, results improve. They have won five of the seven games he's started this season.

One of the best things he does is slow the ball down when he's running at defenders. The art of that is it gives the opponent a respite but he is always in control of the ball. He then beats them with his skill.

Chelsea come up against last year's semi-finalists Ajax in what looks like a very tough game indeed on paper.

The Dutch side became (nearly) everyone's second team last season, playing some brilliant football with their bewitching mix of homegrown talent and Southampton cast-offs.

Can they do it all again this year? Or will Chelsea's own group of kids come away with a result?
