  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 25 mins

    Genk 0-1 Liverpool

WHAT a pass. Roberto Firmino that is sublime! Sadio Mane plays it into the Brazilian, who plays it back with a rabona pass inbetween two defenders. Dead weight.

    Mane's shot is saved!

    Genk 0-1 Liverpool

Genk keeper Gaetan Coucke doesn't fancy an aerial challenge with Virgil van Dijk and I for one am not going to judge him for it. He shells the ball but gets away with it as Sadio Mane's shot is blocked.

Genk now have a free-kick out wide.

In the other game in Liverpool's group Dries Mertens has given Napoli the lead against RB Salzburg.

That means Napoli top Group E at the moment.

    Genk 0-1 Liverpool

Genk are running directly at Liverpool's defence whenever they get the ball, and we saw how profitable a tactic that was when Salzburg came to town.

This time it's Junya Ito who flies into space but he loses his footing at the key moment.

    Genk 0-1 Liverpool

That would make things worse wouldn't it?

Liverpool bossing this now, keeping the ball easily. A reminder that Genk have never won a game in the European Cup, just like Scunthorpe.

Sadio Mane is pulled up for handball and he's not happy about it. Correct call though. Roberto Firmino drops over to the left to start an attack but Liverpool elect to just keep it and start again down the right.

Rafa Silva has given Benfica the lead against Lyon in Group G.

Despite that Benfica are still bottom of an extremely tight group. A reminder that RB Leipzig beat Zenit St Petersburg 2-1 earlier to go top of that group.

    Genk 0-1 Liverpool

A few gremlins in this Liverpool display so far, despite their early lead. Naby Keita plays a blind backpass from the halfway line which almost leads to disaster but Virgil van Dijk is across to bale him out. Have a look!

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 8 mins

    Genk 0-1 Liverpool

    Errr, defence?!

A straight ball over the top catches Liverpool out, Paul Onuachu is again in behind Dejan Lovren and Alisson has to make a save.

The defence was all over the shop.

    Genk 0-1 Liverpool

Fluid attacking play from Liverpool, playing like, well, European champions.

Sadio Mane pops the ball over to James Milner attacking from right-back, his cross is a good one and Roberto Firmino goes down as the filling in a Genk sandwich. Half-hearted appeals for a pen, no dice.

  14. CLOSE!published at 20:06 British Summer Time 23 October 2019

    Genk 0-1 Liverpool

End-to-end action in Belgium, the hosts should be level.

Genk clear a corner and dangerman Mbwana Samatta finds himself on goal. He is being chased down by Virgil van Dijk but the Dutchman cannot catch him.

Samatta chests it down on the edge of the box, but then drags a left-footed shot wide. A shame.

  16. goal

GOAL - Genk 0-1 Liverpoolpublished at 2 mins

    Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

    Well, that escalated quickly.

So easy this for Liverpool, taking the lead in the opening two minutes.

Fabinho fizzes a pass into the feet of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 25-yards out, the Englishman came close to scoring at Old Trafford but does find the net this time, drilling a low finish into the bottom corner.

    The goalkeeper was unmoved.

  18. 'Brilliant performance' from Chelseapublished at 20:01 British Summer Time 23 October 2019

    FT: Ajax 0-1 Chelsea

    Matt Upson
Former England and West Ham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chelsea's most significant result under Frank Lampard?

Without a shadow of a doubt. This result is huge for Frank Lampard and huge in the scale of the Champions League at the moment. We're talking about a top Champions League team, at Ajax, and it's just a brilliant performance.

You saw the maturity at the end there. In the last four or five minutes, Ajax couldn't get out of the right-back area. Chelsea pinned it in and made some great decisions. They took responsibility on the pitch today and Frank Lampard will be delighted with that.
