    RB Salzburg 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool's first sight of goal brings an opportunity for Mohamed Salah, but his effort from close range is superbly saved by Cican Stankovic. Soon after, Sadio Mane floats an effort that has the home keeper scrambling but drifts wide of goal.

    It's gripping stuff.

    Napoli 1-0 Genk

It hasn't taken Napoli long to take the lead. Arkadiusz Milik has struck inside three minutes to put them ahead against Genk.

Doesn't really change anything. Liverpool always knew they'd need a result here.

First shot in anger is struck by Dominik Szoboszlai, but it bobbles harmlessly wide of the Liverpool goal.

The second is on target, but Enock Mwepu's effort is saved by Alisson.

    RB Salzburg 0-0 Liverpool

Erling Haaland is making a nuisance of himself immediately, charging into Liverpool territory. He briefly looks to have got ahead of Virgil van Dijk, but the Dutch defender receovers.

Seconds later, Van Dijk is on call again, to slide in and prevent Hwang Hee-chan getting in.

    Lively start.

The biggest balancing act Jurgen Klopp has had to deal with this season is knowing you are in seven competitions - how do you manage every one of those competitions - and I think he has done it perfectly, so far.

You look at the Super Cup - that went in the bag. No, they didn't win the Community Shield, but to start the season the way they have, off the back of winning the Champions League, has been phenomenal.

There is an intriguing conclusion in store in Group F, where one of Inter Milan or Borussia Dortmund will be eliminated. Both are on seven points, with Spanish giants Barcelona already having sealed top spot.

It is most likely to be the Italians, who are at Barca, while Dortmund host bottom side Slavia Prague.

RB Leipzig booked their place in the Champions League knockout stages with a 2-2 draw against Benfica.

Zenit St Petersburg will qualify if they win away to Benfica, who cannot finish in the top two. But Lyon - who are away to Leipzig - can still qualify if they pick up more points than Zenit from the final game.

Jurgen Klopp: "Everybody knows it's a final. We are prepared. Salzburg have to win against Liverpool. We will fight in each challenge. It's the most important football game of our lives because it's the next one.

"I don't expect drops in performance. If it happens I will deal with that then. The schedule is what it is. We accept it.

"We are in the most intense period of our lives. We will try to enjoy it. It's difficult, there is no doubt about that, but we will try to enjoy it."

RB Salzburg have lost four of their five matches against English opposition in all European competition, conceding at least twice in every match (13 in total).

At home, Salzburg drew 2-2 with Blackburn in September 2006 (Uefa Cup) and lost 0-2 to Man City in September 2010 (Europa League).

Salzburg have won 15 and lost one of their last 20 home games in European competition (including qualifiers), with that defeat coming last time out on home soil versus Napoli.

Only Tottenham (17) and Bayern Munich (21) have scored more goals than Salzburg (16) this season. Since 2003-04, the most goals scored by a side in the group stage to be eliminated is 16 scored by Chelsea in the 2012-13 campaign - they went on to win the Europa League.

    Naby KeitaImage source, Getty Images

Naby Keita is back on familiar territory tonight, having been a Salzburg player from 2014 to 2016.

It could be a big night for him. Another big display - after scoring in Saturday's win at Bournemouth - will further cement his place in the Reds starting XI.

Keita cost £52.75m from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018, but has been restricted to only 17 Premier League starts since. However, Klopp says he never doubted his ability.

"We are not flying, it's not like we won all of the games 4-0, or 5-0, so we had to bring on a player who helps us with defending set-pieces," said Klopp, whose side are eight points clear at the top of the table.

"Then Naby is sitting outside thinking, 'why don't I play?' I get all that.

"So we stayed in contact, we talked and we spoke a lot about it.

"But in the end of course a player needs to have this evidence that the manager still believes in you. I was never in doubt about that."

Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport: "From the very beginning, in our Champions League trip, we always find ourselves in these kinds of situations.

"It never changes for us, so no surprises, that's how it is. We have to be ready and show it - no point talking about it - we have to show it."

On his decision to start Naby Keita at his former club: "He knows the stadium...that's not the reason, just an easy decision, to be honest."

    Napoli v Genk (17:55 GMT)

What were you doing when you were 17 years and 287 days old? Well, I'll tell you what you weren't doing and that is playing in goal against Napoli in the Champions League.

Today, Genk's Maarten Vandevoordt will become the youngest goalkeeper to play in Europe's premier club competition, breaking the record held by Benfica's Mile Svilar, who made his debut against Manchester United in 2017 aged 18 years and 52 days.

Vandevoordt has started Genk's last two matches in the Belgium league and cup.

He has been picked ahead of regular Gaetan Coucke.

You'll all surely be aware of striker Erling Braut Haaland by now.

Alfie Haaland's son, born in Leeds, linked with every top club in Europe, scoring boatloads of goals.

Well, he's going for a record tonight against Liverpool. Haaland has scored in all five of his Champions League games so far, scoring eight goals and averaging a goal every 37 minutes. No player has ever scored in their first six appearances in the competition.

Jurgen Klopp is certainly not taking RB Salzburg lightly, referring to this game as a 'final'. Last time out the Reds were beaten by a Napoli, when a victory would have sealed their progress. The German has no time for failure.

"Everybody knows it's a final and we're prepared - Salzburg has to win against us," he said.

"We are not a typical Champions League winner, we're still ambitious like crazy, we will go for everything and run for our lives.

"It's not that I expect us to go through, I expect us to play the best game we can play."

RB Salzburg are clearly up for the fight tonight. Just take a gander at this call to arms on their official website., external

Drawing inspiration from Leicester's 2015-16 Premier League title win, Andy Ruiz's heavyweight win over Anthony Joshua (they might want to check what happened in the last fight) and Rocky Balboa, they're gunning for the win against Liverpool.

"Some moments are just made for heroes to be made and myths born," they say.

"The Premier League leaders now have to come into our world though. Des is Soizburg instead of This is Anfield. We'll see just how good Kloppo's band of millionaires are in our back yard. Liverpool have some work to do given their record of losing four of their past five away UEFA Champions League group stage matches.

"We are more than this!" said Jesse Marsch towards the end of his legendary half-time team talk in Liverpool. Now we have to prove that. More than a football club - we are a movement! More than Salzburg - we are the spirit of the city that gave Mozart to the world! More than 90 minutes - this is a moment for eternity!"

  20. What to expect?published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2019

So what are the English teams actually up against this evening?

Well, Lille have won their last three games in Ligue 1 to sit third in the table but are rock bottom of the Champions League group with just one point to their name, earned in their home game with Valencia. Chelsea beat them 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

As an indicator of where the main problems may lie, the French side have scored with just 3.9% of their shots in the Champions League this season (three out of 78).

As for RB Salzburg, well they're a bit of a tougher opponent. They've only lost twice in all competitions this season - both coming in the Champions League, at Anfield (just) and home to Napoli. They top the Austrian first division and boast one of Europe's top young attacking talents in Erling Haaland.
