It's quite a simple formation for Rangers and it's an imbalance, but it works and is what has got them here. There's so much strength in depth and competition for places that they know they have to perform at the highest level or there are players waiting to take their place. Ten changes from East Fife says it all. He's made sure he's gone with his strongest side.

  2. 'As strong a team as Gerrard could pick'published at 18:52 British Summer Time 22 August 2019

They are winning games, they are in a good place so I don't think you would be overly concerned. When you look at the team selected, barring a couple of positions, they're probably as strong as you could imagine Steven Gerrard could pick.

  6. Then it is Celtic's turnpublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 22 August 2019

    Celtic v AIK (19:45)

At the conventional 19:45 BST kick-off time, Neil Lennon's team will host AIK of Sweden, hoping to show the form they demonstrated in earlier rounds of Champions League qualifying before it went a bit, err, Pete Tong.

Last week's Celtic Park calamity left the club's supporters stunned, a feeling that surely only intensified as they struggled to an extra-time League Cup victory over Dunfermline Athletic.

Can the Scottish champions rediscover their bounce tonight? We shall see...

  7. Rangers first uppublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 22 August 2019

    Legia Warsaw v Rangers (19:00)

Both matches will cross over tonight (which will severely cut into my empire biscuit-eating time...) but Steven Gerrard's Rangers will fly out the traps at the slightly earlier time of 19:00 BST as they take on Legia Warsaw in Poland.

The Ibrox side have looked formidable in recent rounds, seeing of Progres Niederkorn and Midtjylland with relative ease.

Gerrard's team are now potentially just 180 minutes away from a return to the group stage of the Europa League.

  8. Hello & cześćpublished at 18:33 British Summer Time 22 August 2019

Good evening all and welcome to your now weekly serving of European football for the two remaining Scottish sides still battling away on the continent.

On the back of Aberdeen crashing out last week at home to Rijeka and Celtic's shock loss to Cluj in the Champions League, Neil Lennon's men will join Rangers in tonight's Europa League play-off round.
