Two in four minutes for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It's a lovely move from Everton as Bernard slides a pass through to Alex Iwobi, he squares it for Calvert-Lewin, who has the simple task of tapping in.

Sheffield Wednesday sliced apart and it already looks a long way back for them.

    Preston 0-0 Man City

The roof almost comes off as Preston captain Alan Browne whips in a fine low cross into the corridor of uncertainty but nobody is there to tap home at the back stick.

    Colchester 0-0 Tottenham

In Essex, the only way is... one-way Tottenham traffic.

The Premier League side have plenty of experience in the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Victory Wanyama, despite handing debuts to forward Troy Parrott and centre-back Japhet Tanganga.

Parrott has been a lively presence up front so far, interchanging with Alli and Lucas Moura. This could be a long evening for the home side.

  5. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 19:53 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Preston 0-0 Man City

    Emlyn Begley
    BBC Sport at Deepdale

Furious Preston fans are on their feet, livid with what they perceive to be a Raheem Sterling dive in a bid to win a penalty.

And the other end, City fans think it should have been a spot-kick. The referee just let play go on, no penalty or dive. No VAR tonight remember.

  6. goal

GOAL - Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Evertonpublished at 6 mins

    Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Everton nearly went behind early on, but now they lead. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, on his 100th appearance for the club, bags his 19th goal - his second of the season, and does it in style.

A ball from Djibril Sidibe over the top finds Calvert-Lewin at the back post, the striker takes a touch and unleashes a piledriver that goes in off the bar. Always looks more spectacular when that happens.

    I wonder if Saturday's 8-0 scoreline was mentioned in Watford's pre-tie huddle?

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:49 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Everton

A chance for Sheffield Wednesday already as Sam Winnall is through on goal after some defensive nervousness from the Toffees, but Jordan Pickford comes to Everton's rescue.

And Marco Silva is a relieved man.

Not many empty seats at Deepdale for what should be a proper cup match. Deafening noise at both ends. Manchester is only down the road from Preston really so plenty of away supporters have made the trip.

An early warning for Colchester - the lowest-ranked team left in the competition - as the Premier League side force a corner within the first 60 seconds. Comes to nothing.

It's a rainy Fratton Park and there is not a spare seat in the house. They've not played each other for seven years so will there be a shock on the south coast?

There's bragging rights at work tomorrow at stake for the fans and a place in the fourth round for the players.

  20. 'If Everton lose Silva could be in trouble'published at 19:40 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

Sheffield Wednesday v Everton (19:45 BST)

    Don Hutchison
Ex-Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

This is huge. If Marco Silva loses this one he could be in trouble. I looked at his body language after the game the other day and he looked white. If that club have grand designs of getting in the top six they can't keep dropping points against the sides they have been.

When you look at their first XI it's a very good group which has had investment. I wonder if he's not getting his point across. I like him but he's quite monotone and I wonder what he's like motivating the team.
