Premier League leaders Liverpool scored a stoppage-time penalty to maintain their 100% winning start to the season on Saturday, while Tottenham's struggles continued and Aston Villa thumped Norwich.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's hard to accept. We were a bit unlucky with the decisions.

"We scored a goal and took the lead but we had other chances, especially in the first half. I said before we started the season that the way we use VAR is the most important thing. We have nothing to complain about.

"Maybe a second goal would have decided the game. We had three good chances to score but didn't manage to.

"I don’t think we played a bad game but we need to play better and keep improving. It was a good chance to be in the top three in the table."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I thought we were a bit unlucky to fall behind. The first half we were very satisfied with, we were a constant threat.

"I wouldn't say Haller's goal came against the run of play but we felt it wasn’t in the offing at that stage. We were then fortunate that the two decisions that had to be made went our way.

"The one area we’ve been constantly strong in is central defence, but we’ve been working on our attacking play as well. That’s why we’ve managed to amass a good tally of points so far."

I don't drive so I'll trust Roy's car analogy is correct there.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought we grew into the game. My view was that we were passing the ball as well as they were. The big thing was the attitude and how we came back after conceding that goal.

"There was some discussion [about penalty takers]. Patrick [van Aanholt] was the man for me and he was happy to take it.

"There’s not much to argue about [with Ayew's goal]. From a footballing point of view I think it’s hard for players to accept that decisions are made that are down to millimetres. I can understand it must be harsh for West Ham for it to be ruled in our favour.

"It’s a question of staying grounded and keeping our eye very much on the ball. Fourteen points at this stage is a fantastic return.

"We know we’re not a bad team at all, but we also know that we can take nothing for granted. It just takes the slightest touch of our foot off the pedal to mean we start going into reverse."

Only Manchester City (33) and Liverpool (30) have won more away points in the Premier League in 2019 than Crystal Palace (25).

West Ham United

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's a disappointing result because we were in front. We had other clear chances to decide the game. Two Palace set-pieces allowed them to get the win.

"It was an unnecessary penalty and a decision from the VAR that cost us the game. When Rice goes to the ball maybe he should keep his arms down. It’s an instant reaction.

"We need to accept VAR. I always say the human eye cannot see these things. VAR exists and it decided it was a goal.

"It’s a tough feeling. Not only to get nothing from the game but also missing the chance to be among the top three positions in the table."

Crystal Palace have scored the highest ratio of Premier League goals from the penalty spot (12% - 52/432).

Fred Crint: Whilst he wasn't helped by his stints with Liverpool and England, Roy Hodgson has made a habit of doing well with unfashionable teams. Remember Fulham and the Europa League, beating Juve along the way? Still doing it.

Only Aston Villa (8) have lost more points from winning positions in the Premier League this season than West Ham United (7).

Daryl Wing: Palace needed that win. Next five games: City, Arsenal, Leicester, Chelsea, Liverpool. Let's see if they're still in a Champions League place after that.

West Ham United

West Ham captain Mark Noble, speaking to Sky Sports: "In the first half their goalkeeper made two saves he didn’t know about. Manu [Lanzini] had a great chance, Felipe [Anderson] had a great chance.

"Everything today went against us. I’m not sure about the handball [which led to Palace's penalty] and the offside decision for their second goal was millimetres.

"We had two or three really good moves in the first half. Palace have some good players but we should definitely have scored in the first half with the chances that we had.

"We scored a really good goal, but we had two massive decisions go against us."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was very tense. We did well to come back and luckily won the game.

"Luka [Milivojevic] was suspended today. Before the game the gaffer asked who wanted to take the penalty and looked at me, so I was happy to take it.

"We never stop believing in this team. We have good characters. We fell behind - maybe I should have stopped the cross [for West Ham's goal] - but we came back.

"With the quality in this team, I think we can aim for higher [than 40 points]."

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew, speaking to Sky Sports: "You need a bit of luck. I think we deserved the three points. It was a tight game and we were lucky, but we’ll take it.

"I thought I was onside but the lino told me Martin Kelly was maybe offside. We were lucky it was a goal. Usually when you wait that long it’s not a goal, so it’s a positive.

"The most important thing for us is to get the 40 points. After we’ve done that we’ll see what we can do. That’s the target. We’ll just keep going. We’ll never know what can happen but the target is 40 points."

Fred, Hampshire: The people who complain about VAR decisions were the same people who, last season, got angry at linesman who couldn't spot these incredibly tight decisions on one viewing.

Dan, London: A reminder that there have been ZERO clearly offside goals scored and ZERO clearly onside goals wrongly disallowed this season. Quit your whining.
