What a contrasting week for Rangers and Aberdeen.Steven Gerrard's side reach the League Cup semi-final and have scored nine goals in their two league wins over St Johnstone and Aberdeen. And with Celtic drawing with Hibernian, Rangers are now just one point off the top of the Premiership.James Tavernier scored two penalties, while Greg Stewart, Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe got the others.

For Aberdeen though, they were criticised despite winning at Livingston, lost on penalties to hearts, and this afternoon suffer their biggest defeat since December 2010.

That would have been cruel on Killie, but what a chance for County!

A delightful ball is floated in from the right-hand side but substitute Brian Graham totally mistimes his header. He really should have scored.

Goodness me, that’s a poor penalty from Osman Sow. He tried to put the keeper the wrong way but the excellent Ross Laidlaw guessed correctly and was already waiting, prone, to gather the weak left-footed effort from the big striker on loan from Dundee United.

"Tippy-tappy isn't going to cut it," says BBC pundit Billy Dodds of the Japanese midfielder.

  18. Livi aiming to snatch a winnerpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 28 September 2019

    Hamilton Accies 1-1 Livingston

    Alasdair Lamont
    BBC Sport Scotland

Livingston looking slightly the likelier to get what might well be the crucial third goal in this game. They look more of a threat in the final third and stronger physically all over the park. I’m a little surprised to see Gary Holt take Aymen Souda off as he always seems capable of creating something.

    Kilmarnock 0-0 Ross County

Star of the show so far?

It has to be the Ross County keeper Ross Laidlaw. While at the other end, Laurentiu Branescu has had virtually nothing to do, the visiting goalie has been very busy.

Several tidy first half saves kept things level at the break, and he’s upped his game even further after the interval, with crucial interventions to keep out Alex Bruce, with a point-blank header, and Osman Sow with a powerful shot, and now a penalty save.

Scott Tanser's penalty miss just about sums up St Johnstone's season so far. It seems to have sucked the life out of Saint and given some added spring in the step of Motherwell who have now got a real grip on the game.
