    Newcastle United

Jonjo Shelvey speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We worked our socks off today, each one of us put in the 110%.

"When we had possession we did well and we defended for our lives today, you could see the defenders putting their bodies on the line.

"We do a lot of running during the week but on the pitch the only time we have been defeated was when the other teams outworked us: this of course can’t happen and if we feel we can run more than the other team we’ll always have a chance in the game."

On his goal:"I saw they were sitting deep and I asked Atsu to cut the ball back to me, it was always drifting away from the keeper.

'" know I can do that, I do it in training quite regularly but it is important to do it in a match and this secured us a point."

Abba Simon: City definitely need new signings to freshen up the group, they are definitely on a decline. Nothing lasts forever though.

    FT: Newcastle 2-2 Man City

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC 5 Live

Ultimately on the day, City were too lacklustre. They were too laboured, they did not do it quick enough and that’s why they were punished today.

They have let Liverpool get that lead now. They have not been themselves. They have got injuries but this is not an excuse.

You would expect Atsu to hit a in swinger, instead he rolls the ball to the edge of the area to Shelvey who curls it into the top far corner, what a wonderful goal to get them back into this game.

Manchester City did not have anybody at the edge of the area, Rodri went there very late and they would be disappointed with that.
