  1. 'A disastrous result for Arsenal'published at 22:07 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's not going to be a quick fix. They are breaking all the wrong records. It's a disastrous match and result for Arsenal. You've got to take your hats off to Brighton though.

  2. Postpublished at 22:07 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal haven't won since 1977.

No sorry, it's not quite that bad. No win in nine games, their worst run since 1977.

  3. FULL-TIMEpublished at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

[Not my view, the views of the crowd at the Emirates].

  4. 'It would have been a great goal'published at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a shocking mistake from Xhaka. Tossard does brilliantly because he's still got two players to beat. If he'd hit the target it would have been a great goal.

    Granit Xhaka...

Treads on the ball on the halfway line and is robbed by Leandro Trossard, he cuts inside the last man, leans back and scuds a shot just over...

  6. 'Brighton have to take the credit'published at 22:04 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brighton have to take a huge amount of credit. Graham Potter has set them up in a brave fashion. He's thought we're good enough to come here and show the real us. Every player has done that, it's been a very good performance.

  7. INJURY TIMEpublished at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton

FOUR minutes added on. As it stands Brighton are a point behind the Gunners.

Utter apathy from the crowd. Even Claude and the lads are going to struggle to get into a lather by the sounds of it.

  8. Postpublished at 22:02 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

Nicolas Pepe to take, whipped just wide. With a deflection.

Brighton are playing like they know they're a better team than Arsenal. No panic when they conceded, weathered the storm and got the deserved second goal.

Mathew Ryan isn't the biggest keeper in the world but that was lovely footwork to get across and palm it wide.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:59 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton

What a great, odd, save that is! Kieran Tierney's cross from the left is met by Gabriel Martinelli, who heads into the far corner.

Mat Ryan appears to have misjudged it, the ball looked past him before he even attempted a dive but he still managed to shovel it out! Superb in the end.

  13. 'The game has changed and it's quite sad'published at 21:57 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-2 Newcastle

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder talking to BBC Sport: "I'm involved now in a different sport, it's a new game to where I started as a 16-year-old. It's a different game. It's a completely different game and I've got to get my head around that.

"We were told at the start of the season that the linesman would keep his flag down, but he didn't. The referee was about to blow his whistle but he didn't. You can criticise my players for stopping, but even the goalscorer didn't look too interested. It's disappointing. It sucked the life out of the whole stadium. We're on the end of a poor one. The game has changed and it's quite sad.

"The players are disappointed. You're talking about a manager learning a new game but the players have to learn on the job too. It seems to be all over the place at the moment.

"It just doesn't feel good. It doesn't feel good to be involved in. It doesn't feel good when you score a goal. I can handle it if people make a mistake, we talk about it all evening out, but it's just taken a completely different feel.

"We'll get told it's new, we're all learning about it. I'm not sure I want to learn about it, I'm a bit fed up of it. It's a mistake by the linesman, why didn't he just keep his flag down? Five minutes later it happened twice and the referee blew up twice. What's the difference? Where's the consistency we're all after."

    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton

There must be a decent queue at the tube station by now as the crowd thins out at the Emirates. Still six minutes at least left.

  15. 'Passive defending'published at 21:55 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live sports Extra

Well worked by Mooy, he has been brilliant, he just cuts back on to his right foot, rather easily I must say, and a glancing header from Maupay.

But it is the passive defending again from Arsenal, from Bellerin to allow the cross and Luiz not close enough to Maupay.

It has to raise questions of the Arsenal players' fitness. It is like they have not had the engine to take the game on.

  16. Postpublished at 21:55 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 1-2 Brighton

Nicolas Pepe has added plenty to Arsenal since coming on. Enough? I'm not sure but he does well to get a shot in and test Mat Ryan but he's equal to it.

  17. goal

GOAL - Arsenal 1-2 Brightonpublished at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Neal Maupay (80 mins)

Same again! Aaron Mooy has space on the left, shapes in a lovely little cross and Neal Maupay, with David Luiz all over him, flicks a little deft header into the far corner!

You can't say Brighton don't deserve that. Well of course you can, it's just about a free country still, but not many people would. Near silence in the stands.

  18. Postpublished at 21:51 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 1-1 Brighton

Twelve minutes of normal time left as Neal Maupay has a shot charged down, found by a lovely disguised reverse pass from Aaron Mooy. If Mooy had pace he'd be playing higher up, I'm sure of it.

  19. Postpublished at 21:48 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Arsenal 1-1 Brighton

Every set-piece is a threat, at either end. Brighton have a free-kick which Dan Burn almost helps on to a free Adam Webster but Arsenal can just about clear it.

Alexandre Lacazette is then replaced, Gabriel Martinelli is on.

  20. 'We get so many mixed messages'published at 21:46 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

More from Chris Wilder: "If we are going to go to all these tight calls and be super spot on with it, why did the linesman put his flag up? We've looked at it and it is tight. The game has completely changed and it sucked the life out of our players.

"I won't speak to the referee. We get so many mixed messages all the time. Jonjo didn't play to the end, he jogged up to the ball and all of a sudden got a bit excited and stuck it in. If he kept his flag down does Jonjo go through and my goalkeeper make a bit more effort?"
