  2. 'We can get out of trouble'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2019

    Watford 2-0 Man Utd

    Watford

Watford boss Nigel Pearson, speaking to Match Of The Day: "I am very pleased with the result. We needed that very badly because it would have been difficult to go beyond Christmas without a win. Performance wise we were probably played better last week, but I'm delighted how we approached the game. We have given the fans something to cheer."

On a change of luck: "Errors always happen in games and I said to the players I would take a scruffy 1-0 win. I thought we did some good things, deserved to win the game and there is more to come. We've been unfortunate at times this season. We have to concentrate on ourselves and not worry what other people are doing. We have to set standards we are aiming for."

On the possibility of a 'Great Escape': "I'm not going to discuss that. We are in a difficult situation but I believe we can get out of it. The situation we are in we have do anything we can to win a game. I thought the players committed to the game exceptionally well. I'll be very confident we can get out of this situation."

  3. 'A bit of tactical genius from Lampard'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2019

Frank has a smirk on his face. It has been a masterclass so far. Willian is cool as taking that but it's bigger than that. This 45 minute display from Frank's team is so good. The shift in formation has been a bit of tactical genius from Frank Lampard. He has got the better of his counterpart. Jose Mourinho has no answers and Chelsea deserve to go into half time 2-0 up.

Ben: Ooooooo. That is a penalty, all day long.

Pudding-Head Wilson: Rather strange bit of goalkeeping there to say the least.

The 45 minutes are up and there's two minutes added on at the end of the half.

Paulo Gazzaniga comes flying to claim a ball into the box, misses the ball completely and clatters into Marcos Alonso.

Referee Anthony Taylor awards a Spurs free kick but VAR is having a look to see if there's a potential Chelsea penalty.

  9. 'Tottenham have the personnel to make it more attacking'published at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2019

    Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea

    Jermaine Jenas
Ex-Tottenham and Newcastle midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Managers don't like to bow down to other managers tactics but Tottenham have the personnel on the pitch to make small changes. Mourinho can mix it around and make the team more attacking. Sometimes when it is not going well, you just need to look at each and believe in yourselves. I have never seen Dele Alli play so deep.

  10. Chelsea frustrating Spurspublished at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2019

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Chelsea are quick and incisive but Spurs - despite creating a couple of chances - are ponderous and the home fans are really letting them know about it.

Still have that feeling Chelsea need a second goal, though.

Lots of training ground passing by Spurs but giving the killer ball away.

    Steve K, Swindon

You could tell in the build up to this game how determined Lampard was to win. Mourinho on the other hand seemed far more concerned about having a hug with his old mate Frank. So far those attitudes are being reflected on the pitch.

Moussa Sissoko collides with Kepa as he slides in to try and win the ball. It prompts a moment of worry for the home fans as refere Anthony Taylor marches over but he opts to keep his cards in his pocket.

No malice, but it was a little reckless by Sissoko.

Tottenham are struggling to clear their lines as they try to pass the ball out of the back. It almost proves costly as N'Golo Kante gets a cross into the box but eventually Spurs are able to get the ball away from danger.

    Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea

    Jermaine Jenas

Mourinho has to come up with something. I look at Chelsea's defensive three and if it was me, I would put the Tottenham front three up against them and let the rest of the Tottenham team figure it out. Then you just go long and go three vs three. He has to make Frank Lampard and this Chelsea team think of something new. At the moment they are having it all their own way.

Mangoe: I'm sure Mourinho knows more about tactics than me, but its not surprising spurs are losing the midfield battle playing Dier and Sissoko, while Eriksen, Ndombele, and Winks sit on the bench. What is he thinking?

I've been saying for ages now, Sanchez Aurier and Dier are not anywhere near good enough for any premier league team, Never mind spurs

Another chance for Tottenham! This time Harry Kane finds a pocket of space on the right side of the box before whipping an excellent cross behind the defence for Son Heung-min but Cesar Azpilicueta does enough with a sliding tackle to put off Son and the Spurs forward blasts well over.

    Better from the hosts, though.
