    Watford 2-0 Man Utd

That result is the beauty of the Premier League, especially at this time of year. Going into the Christmas games, confidence needs to run high.

Manchester United will be going away from Vicarage Road needing to have a long, hard look at themselves. They have not been good enough today by any stretch, across everything. It just has not been there.

On the other hand, Watford have done everything they have needed to do and Nigel Pearson will be delighted.

    FT: Watford 2-0 Man Utd

Defeat for Manchester United, meanwhile, means they head into Christmas eighth in the table - their lowest position at this stage of a season since 1989.

Absolutely buzzing for Nigel Pearson today. Alot said about Utd, but this could be a huge result for Watford in their bid to survive. He pulled off the great escape with Leicester, can he do it again? I'm sure every other LCFC fan will be wishing him the best!

    Luke, Leicester fan.

The table doesn't lie- Man Utd are a top 10 side. Nothing more. Capable of beating anyone on their day, but will lose plenty. Credit to Watford for putting on a good performance- but this is not a shock!

Antony Martial cuts inside and bends a shot at goal but, once again, it is too close to Ben Foster.

Can David De Gea now be classed as a top class player? How can you make as many mistakes as he has and be classed as top goalkeeper? It comes hand in hand. It has not just been this season.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 89 mins

    Watford 2-0 Man Utd

Marcus Rashford chests down Anthony Martial's ball into the box, swivels but hits a low shot too close to Ben Foster and the Watford keeper saves with his legs.

You feel that needed to go in for Manchester United to have any chance of a comeback.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 87 mins

    Watford 2-0 Man Utd

Final change for Watford as Ismaila Sarr is replaced by Isaac Success.

The Hornets are within touching distance of a first home win since April, and what a big win it would be.

  14. CLOSE!published at 85 mins

    Watford 2-0 Man Utd

Mason Greenwood goes for the lob and the ball takes an age to drop but, to the relief of Watford fans, it drops on the other side of the goal.

Just five minutes of normal time remaining.

    Watford 2-0 Man Utd

No disrespect to Watford, who have done a fine job in this this game, but it is quite amazing that Manchester United can go from doing a number on Manchester City in their last away game to being on the verge of defeat to the Premier League's bottom club in their next away fixture.

Still time for Manchester United to pull something off, but it is looking increasingly unlikely.

  16. CLOSE!published at 82 mins

    Watford 2-0 Man Utd

Anthony Martial slips in Paul Pogba and the midfielder attempts to curl the ball into the top corner but Ben Foster makes a good save.

Luke: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is showing that even if you have a blank chequbook and a very very very expensive squad, if you are not a very good manager then you still have little hope of success.

Sheriff Touray: Ole seems to run out of ideas. Nothing is working. If a team can beat the champions but struggles against bottom teams then the coach is at fault.

    Watford 2-0 Man Utd

Into the final 10 minutes and Manchester United win a corner as a good move ends with Luke Shaw's cross being poked behind by Craig Cathcart.

Juan Mata bends the ball in and finds Harry Maguire. It's a free header but he plants it straight into Ben Foster's hands.

  19. 'Man Utd are poor'published at 15:35 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2019

    Watford 2-0 Man Utd

    Matt Upson
Former England and West Ham defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

If anything Watford have looked more dangerous since it was 2-0. You would have expected them to have to sit deep and there be a barrage of attacks from Manchester United but that really has not been the case. It just shows how poor Manchester United have been.

Andrew Huyton: People forgetting the impact nearly every new manager has in his first game plus Deeney return against an average Utd side equals “upset”.

Man utd are football's equivalent to Robin Hood. Steal from the rich to give to the poor.
