    Villa lead, should be three.

Lovely touch and turn from Christian Pulisic to move away from a defender on the edge of the area and shoot, left-footed, but it curls away from the far post.

Tim: Each team need to have one VAR review per game, which they get to keep if decision in their favour. Then you can apply the current strict rules in place.

Tom Paulin: The live microphone on referees from rugby + the margin of error (umpires call) from cricket = a far better version of VAR. Most importantly happy fans.

Christopher: Give them a time limit to decide if there is an offside. Not only will it speed up the process, it will automatically eliminate the ones that are too close to call because they cant determine in time.

If Jack Grealish got sold in January, Aston Villa would be relegated.

That's how important he is. If they lost him, they would be in serious, serious trouble.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 13:15 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Brighton 0-1 Chelsea

Better from Brighton! Neal Maupay does well to find space down the left, he holds it up and cuts the ball back to Leandro Trossard who shoots from a tough angle, he gets some dip on the strike and it's heading in until Kepa gets a big left hand up to push it out.

  7. 'Grealish has been so excellent'published at 13:13 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Burnley 0-2 Aston Villa

    Andy Reid
Ex-Nottingham Forest and Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Jack Grealish has been involved in absolutely everything. Every time he gets on the ball he looks like he's got so much time on it.

    He's been so excellent today.

The team look to him. He slows the game down or speeds it up depending on what the team needs. The others respond to that.

Paul Richards: Genuine suggestion: why don’t we get rid of the offside rule? It was invented to get rid of goalhanging. Now teams regularly play out from their own goal line to spread the play. It’s not needed. Most other aspects of VAR are fine.

Kev Adamson: I like VAR, but offside should be player's whole torso ahead of that of the opposing player. Will cut down number of borderline decisions, also easier and quicker to measure.

Andy Ross: The way the Premier League are handling VAR implementation strikes me as an organisation unwilling to say "hands up, we've got it wrong... let's have a rethink". A very 20th century way of operating and they're at risk of alienating anyone who loves football.

  10. goal

GOAL - Burnley 0-2 Aston Villapublished at 13:11 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Jack Grealish (41 mins)

    Does this one count? Yes!

A snorter! Jack Grealish has his goal and there's nothing you can do about it. He has so much space inside the area and is able to rattle a shot past Nick Pope and into the top corner.

A deserved goal and a very good one.

I'd be tempted to say that 'they' must be considering a change to how this VAR system is being used but I don't even know who the right 'they' are any more.

VAR may have become self aware. We'll have to send Mark Clattenburg back to 2011 to change the course of the future...

Brighton are struggling to click into gear but they have won a corner, Aaron Mooy's ball in is decent and Kepa gets in a tangle. Cleared out for another corner...

  14. Postpublished at 13:05 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

We have lost the plot. The offside rule was presumably brought in to stop Steve Bloomer and co just standing inside the six-yard box all game for Old Etonians.

Now we are talking about 'limb ambiguity.'

Get Involved - 'Problem is the application'published at 13:04 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    #bbcfootball

Jack Colwill: The problem is not with VAR. The problem is how the offside rule is applied. It is forcing the officials to make these rulings because there is no flexibility in the rule. Use the chest line as the offside marker for the attacking player, removes all limb ambiguity.

Celebcelery: Comment at 12:49- The problem is not the offside rule or VAR itself but the way it is being used by Stockley Park. If it takes minutes to draw lines, it's not a 'clear and obvious error' and the goal should stand.

Doctor Crambles: There were years of discussion before VAR came in, years of trials before it came to the premiership, years to look at how other sports did it. Why does it feel like it's still in an experimental phase where nobody know's what's happening?

Adam Oldroyd: VAR VAR VAR! I'm sick to death of it. I'd rather my team conceded a goal which was a shoelace offside, than go through the process. It's only purpose can surely be to provide jobs for extinct referees? VREXIT!!

Dominic Newlyn: VAR could learn a lot from cricket when it comes to offside. Set a margin of error, then look to the original decision of the linesman. If it is within the margin of error, stick with the decision, if it’s blatantly off/on, change it.

    Burnley 0-1 Aston Villa

    Dion Dublin
Former Aston Villa striker on BBC Football Focus

It's about time he scored, to be fair. That number nine shirt is heavy at Aston Villa, I know!

I'm hoping this is going to be the start of a purple patch for him. He's got all the attributes.

A striker has to be reliable for his team. That's what he's got to be now.
