  2. goal

GOAL - Brighton 0-1 Chelseapublished at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Cesar Azpilicueta (10 mins)

Chelsea have the first goal of the roaring twenties! It's an easy, easy finish as well. Kurt Zouma heads a corner down, Tammy Abraham swivels and shoots and though Aaron Mooy blocks it on the line it sits up nicely for Cesar Azpilicueta to fire in.

    Tony Pulis
Former Stoke and West Brom manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chelsea started brightest but both teams are really matching themselves up.

It's going to be an open game. There has been a lot of football played. The more space there is, the more you expect Chelsea to exploit it.

  4. CLOSE!published at 12:38 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2020

    Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

And then Brighton respond and very nearly open the scoring! Good play down their left sees the ball cutback to Steven Alzate, he jags across the face of the area and then scuffs a low shot narrowly wide with the help of a little deflection.

    Game livening up.

That is nice though, a flowing move sees Ngolo Kante playing in Reece James on the right and he has to hit it first time - he does but can only swerve it wide with the outside of his boot.

Neither game yet to get going yet to be honest. Would Villa take a point today? Tyrone Mings heads a corner clear.

    Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

Good work from Tammy Abraham down in the right channel and he gets a cross in which eventually reaches Mason Mount - his volley is a thumper but well charged down by a man in stripes. Quiet start in the stands for this very early start to the New Year.

Villa win a corner straight away and Trezeguet hits the first man. A £10k fine.

I'm made up with Minamino, but feel like we need cover at LB and maybe another CB to injury-proof our title race. Will trust in Klopp and Edwards though as they've got it right so far.

I've hit my target audience. This Villa green kit is horrible though. The Teale era one was class.

Burnley v Aston Villa (12:30 GMT)

Aston Villa have picked up just seven points from their last 28 away Premier League matches (W1 D4 L23), with five different managers overseeing matches in that time (Sherwood, MacDonald, Garde, Black and Smith).

Former Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Aston Villa tend to give the ball away too easy and in this league you will get punished.

There is so much more to think about when playing in the Premier League and I don't think they have ticked all the boxes.

There are so many factors Villa have got wrong.

Win, lose or draw, there doesn't seem to be any negatives at Chelsea at the moment.

Tammy Abraham’s 12 Premier League goals have been worth 12 points to Chelsea so far this season – no other player's goals have been more valuable to their side (level with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sadio Mané).

I'm a big fan of Tammy Abraham. He's playing a difficult role given his experience.

He's got a very good touch, technique, good at bringing people into the game. He'll be delighted with the return in terms of number of goals.

He's only going to get better.
