The route Chris Wilder has taken [to the Premier League], he's really ground his way there and it's fantastic to see - the new contract is well deserved. Sheffield United play good football and he's getting the best out of his players and they trust him. He's taken players who aren't necessarily Premier League players or have been in the Championship and has stuck with them. It's phenomenal what they have achieved so far.

They may as well name this the football friends derby. Chris Wilder has been very complimentary of David Moyes and the feeling is mutual.

“I didn’t see their success coming immediately in the Premier League but I shouldn’t have been surprised because the manager’s done a brilliant job," says Moyes. "They’ve all come up from the lower leagues and shown they can handle the top flight.

“I enjoy seeing managers who have to earn their stripes, prove themselves in the lower leagues and then they move up.

“It’s not a fluke and that’s why we shouldn’t be surprised with how well Sheffield United have done.”

There has been a bit of speculation doing the rounds that West Ham are lining up a bid for Marouane Fellaini.

In theory, it would be the third time David Moyes had signed the Belgian, who is playing in China after leaving Manchester United 12 months ago.

But it seems it won't be happening. I have been told the Hammers are not interested in the Belgian.

  4. Hammers will stay up under Moyes - Wilderpublished at 19:06 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2020

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has certainly been impressed by the impact David Moyes has had on his West Ham return.

"It has taken just two games for them to show they are a different proposition under David and I wouldn’t bet against them staying up now," he says.

“In England we’re quick to criticise people when it doesn’t go so well and David had a rough time of it at Manchester United.

“But look at his CV and you can see why he’s so respected in the game. His record from Preston to Everton was incredible.

“With David in charge they will win games and climb the table but hopefully they’ll start after coming to our place."

Sheffield United could end the weekend in fifth, West Ham could end it in the bottom three, yet this match doesn't look like the forgone conclusion those potential outcomes would suggest.

Back-to-back wins have been an impressive response to the second coming of David Moyes, especially so when considering the Bournemouth victory was the Hammers' biggest in more than a year.

The Blades come into this game off the back of two straight league defeats for the first time this season - and though the teams they have succumbed to should be considered, so too must the Moyes factor.

Grabbing fifth place in the table promises to be anything but straightforward for the hosts.

Sheffield United make wholesale changes from their win in the FA Cup against Fylde last weekend, but the only alteration to the side that lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Premier League as Oliver McBurnie comes in for Lys Mousset.

New West Ham boss David Moyes makes three changes to his side that beat Gillingham 2-0 in the FA Cup, with Pablo Zabaleta, Aaron Cresswell and Mark Noble all returning.

Issa Diop and Robert Snodgrass drop to the bench. Injured Ryan Fredericks is, as expected, not in the squad.

    BBC Sport at Bramall Lane

I have arrived to news of Chris Wilder's new four-and-a-half year contract to continue as Sheffield United manager until 2024.

There is no mention of it in his programme notes tonight - but Wilder does confirm an intention to make further additions to his squad following the signing of free agent Jack Rodwell.

"We are possibly looking at two or three players coming into the group, not big changes, just a little more strength in a number of areas.

"We need to be strong; we need cover and we need to have serious competition."

Chris Wilder started out as a Sunday League manager and is now finding ways to outwit the best in the country on a regular basis.

It has been an eventful journey to reach this point, featuring five promotions at four different clubs, since taking his first job at Alfreton Town in 2001.

How has he been able to complete such an impressive rise? Those who have played under him explain his methods here.

If West Ham do manage to win tonight they will be spoiling one heck of a party in Sheffield, with boss Chris Wilder having signed a new contract in the last couple of hours.

Will there be a better signing this month?

  12. The second coming of Moyespublished at 18:43 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2020

They often say never go back and, in the minds of many West Ham fans, they certainly didn't want to go back to David Moyes.

But the positive impact of the Scot on his return to the club cannot be denied.

Two wins from his two games in charge have given the Hammers a lift. A third successive win will move them five points clear of the relegation zone. That, though, will be easier said than done against a hard-working Sheffield United side...
