Re: Hard to defend - Mourinho isn't a great manager. He owes Ranieri. He failed at United. Now he'll fail at Spurs.

    Timo

Liverpool are clearly the better side, which makes me wonder exactly why the ref is giving them free rein to disrupt our attacks with cynical little clips of our players' ankles and frequent shirt pulls without fear of a yellow card!

    Jon, Spurs fan

Lucky it isn't any windier in London because Lucas Moura wouldn't be able to stand up.

Liverpool retaining possession well at the moment, not taking any risks. The Reds are rarely wasteful with the ball.

Do Winks and Eriksen come up from those central positions? Do the wide players come further forward? Those are the questions for Spurs at the moment.

    It’s certainly an intriguing watch.

  4. Must not passpublished at 18:39 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool

Tottenham completed just 98 passes in the first half against Liverpool.

Only once - 68 passes against Arsenal in April, 2010 - have Spurs completed fewer in the opening 45 minutes of a home Premier League game since Opta started recording this data (2003-04).

Lucas Moura wins a free kick for Spurs and Jose Mourinho is fuming on the sidelines as he feels there should have been a booking for a Liverpool player there.

The referee allowed advantage and Moura found himself in a really good position outside the box, but scuffed his shot.

That was a big chance for Tottenham.

Lucas Moura sneaks into a pocket of space but he rushes his shot and smashes it the wrong side of the post. A positive start to the half by Spurs, though.

  10. Hard to defendpublished at 18:33 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool

Tottenham have conceded 20 goals in their 13 games under Jose Mourinho in all competitions, the quickest any of his sides have shipped 20 goals.

Indeed, in his first stint in England with Chelsea it took 44 games for Mourinho's Blues to concede that many.

The comparisons against current Premier League sides do not make good reading for Mourinho either.

Only Burnley (21) have conceded more goals in all competitions since 20 November, when he took charge of Tottenham.

    Leicester 1-2 Southampton

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on Final Score

After conceding nine goals against Leicester, in the next 13 league games they have conceded 11.

It just goes to show that Ralph Hasenhüttl has said 'right, it stops now, 9-0 is out of the way, rubbish today lads, rubbish, but come with me and we will be OK'.

He's loving it now. I'm pleased for Hasenhüttl, I like him as a manager, I think he has got everybody on board. The players are on side with him.

  12. Ings 'the right fit' for Englandpublished at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Garth Crooks
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker on Final Score

On Danny Ings' England chances if Harry Kane is not fit for Euro 2020: "He feels like the right fit. He will score goals in any team. He plays well with his back to goal. He won't be disruptive. I think he can play people in. He's a team player. So yes, I think he would be a worthy addition."

  13. 'I am so proud of how far we have come'published at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Leicester 1-2 Southampton

    Southampton

Danny Ings speaking to Match of the Day: "I am just happy to be scoring goals for the team. You saw today, the team do their best to provide the chances, they work so hard behind me I feel there is a little bit more pressure to put them away.

"After hitting the bar twice I thought maybe it wasn't my day today but we all stuck in there and I thought we deserved to win it.

"My adrenaline was so high, I tried taking my top off and it took ages to come off because of the sweat in it.

"How we have been over Christmas and since then has been massive for us and the club moving forward and long may it continue.

"It speaks for itself, the work we do on the pitch, we did everything we could at that time to turn it round (after the 9-0 defeat to Leicester), it couldn't have gone any better than that. I'm so proud of us as a team and how far we have come."

  14. Ings will be in next England teampublished at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on Final Score

Gareth Southgate picks players on form. If he does that then Danny Ings will be in the next England team.

  15. 'We have to fight'published at 18:28 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    FT: Chelsea 3-0 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche: "Chelsea were too strong. We're a little bit stretched at the minute. We set about it quite well in the first half. We calmed it down after going behind but the second goal - if you look at the build-up James Tarkowski is pushed in the back. That's a really import moment. At 3-0 Chelsea are too comfortable.

"This is the Premier League. You come out of two wins and suddenly you lose four on the spin. It creeps up on you. We have to fight for everything. We have always had to do that.

"The confidence gets sucked out of players if they are not winning. We are trying to revive that."

On 20-year-old midfielder Dwight McNeil: "I dont think he is talked about enough as one of the top young players in the Premier League."

Got to say, I'd love for Liverpool to go 'invincible' this year, they are truly amazing to watch. I'm a Bolton fan, though, so plenty teams probably look amazing!!

    Nick, Bolton

Liverpool are playing against Atkinson's poor refereeing and Mourinho’s archaic tactics and they’re still winning, which shows how good they really are.

    HT: Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool

    Bradley Allen
Tottenham Hotspur academy coach on BBC Radio London

The difficulty now for Spurs is how much they choose to engage in the middle third and higher up the pitch. That would mean they'd leave space for Liverpool's devastating front three, who can really hurt defenders.

There might be a personnel change as well. There are a lot of things for Jose Mourinho to consider at half-time.
