On to the final game of the day then, and it is a biggie. Win this one and Liverpool will go SIXTEEN points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

  2. 'We are competitive but realistic'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    FT: Man Utd 4-0 Norwich

    Norwich City

Norwich boss Daniel Farke, speaking to BBC Sport: "When you are 3-0 down against probably the best counter-attacking side in the league it is then difficult to win the game so today we have to accept the better side won the game.

“We gave the first goal away, sloppy in our defending, but you are still in the game. We had a good spell before half-time with Todd Cantwell and a great save by the goalkeeper.

“I was pleased with the reaction at 4-0. We had to stick together in the last 20 minutes. We are disappointed but we also know a game at Old Trafford is not a season-defining game for us.

"We are definitely in the worst position (in the league) but we are competitive. This is what can happen at this level. We are realistic."

On January transfer business: "If we had the opportunity to spend money we would have done in the summer, but we need a few more options and we'll try to do some business in the next days."

  3. 'Quality missing'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Everton 1-0 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Graham Potter speaking to Match of the Day: "We tried, we put a lot into the game, the effort was there and we hit the bar but we didn't do enough to get that goal. The difference was a great finish and we were not able to execute that today.

"We stepped up in the second half, I thought we were a bit better. You want to come away with something but we haven't and we have to dust ourselves off. At 1-0 they're happy to hang on with that.

"You have to take the positives, it wasn't all bad but if you don't get points you have to do better. We have to be at our maximum - effort wise today we were there but we lacked the quality."

On Theo Walcott's penalty claim: "I didn't feel it was clear and obvious. But until it's all done you never know with VAR."

  4. 'We suffered but players were determined'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Everton 1-0 Brighton

    Everton

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti speaking to Match of the Day: "Quite happy. For 60 minutes the performance was good, at the end it was normal to suffer a little bit at 1-0 up.

"We suffered but we were determined to have three points at the end and this is the most important thing."

"The response of the players was good. The support of the stadium is really important for us. When we play here we want to feel at home and I hope the next game will be the same because it is really important."

On Theo Walcott's penalty appeal: "I think it was a penalty, I'm surprised, I think he tried to score and didn't fall down. Usually if he falls it is a penalty I don't know. The work of the referee is not easy but maybe with VAR it could be more simple."

On Richarlison: "A fantastic goal from Richarlison. He has fantastic qualities. He can play everywhere."

On Dominic Calvert-Lewin's disallowed goal: "I didn't speak with him but I think sometimes we have to believe VAR."

  5. 'Convincing win'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    FT: Chelsea 3-0 Burnley

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's a very convincing win. I thought there were some great passages of play throughout the game but the overall performance was superb.

"We played with a really positive attitude - particularly Ross [Barkley] and Callum [Hudson-Odoi]. We have set a standard today and we know we haven't reached that recently."

On 20-year-old Reece James' performance: "He is still very, very young. In terms of his quality he is getting better all the time. He is a big player in the making. If he keeps working hard he has a great chance."

  6. Mourinho will relish thispublished at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

BBC Sport chief football writer at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho will see this as an opportunity to demonstrate he can still pull off the big set piece result - and injuries to the likes of Harry Kane will only strengthen his siege mentality.

Mourinho's last meeting with Liverpool and manager Jurgen Klopp ended in a 3-1 defeat which saw him sacked as Manchester United manager in December 2018.

He has massive odds to overturn against runaway leaders Liverpool, who have not lost a Premier League game for more than a year but these are the sort of games he relishes.

  7. 'It's about what we let them do'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Spurs v Liverpool (17.30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm surprised Rose is back. Everybody was surprised about that.

"With this team(Jose Mourinho has picked) you can do everything. They can play deeper but they can play football as well.

"Everything is possible but it is about what we let them do. When they have the ball, when we have the ball - it's about how we influence the play.

"If it's possible we should try to impose ourselves on them."

  8. 'I've never known anything like it'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    FT: Wolves 1-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle head coach Steve Bruce, speaking to Match of the Day: "Joelinton’s got a bit of a groin problem. He’s managed to stay on the pitch to give us a little bit of a chance. I’ve never known anything like it in 40 years.

"We’ve lost two or three, and it’s been like that for several weeks now. Whether it’s bad luck or we have to go a little deeper to look at it, we need to find out.

"I could tell from the players that they felt a little hard done by too. The two changes did affect us. Dwight [Gayle] started brightly, and unfortunately he’s got injured as well.

"I don’t think there’s a club out there who has 12 or 13 players missing. Fair play to the players, they rolled their sleeves up and deserved a point.”

On Martin Dubravka: "He’s been a big part for us. The save he made with his feet was as good as you’re going to see."

  9. 'Outstanding midfield performance from Mata'published at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Man Utd 4-0 Norwich

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker on Final Score

Rashford was excellent but the performance was instigated by an outstanding midfield performance from Juan Mata supported by Matic - two grown-ups in a very young Manchester United side.

  10. 'A disappointing day'published at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Leicester 1-2 Southampton

    Leicester City

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers, speaking to Match of the Day: "We were just not quite at our best today. Normally we are very, very good defensively. We didn't press well enough and we made too many mistakes with the ball. A couple of goals came from us making wrong choices. A disappointing day for us. We thought we would come away with a point which, possibly we would not have deserved.

"We could never quite find the pass. The game was with two teams looking to counter press so it was quite broken I felt.

"I don't think there were any issues with VAR today. We have a bit of respite to go away now, recover and analyse and get ready for next week."

  11. 'I'm still hungry to play' - Matapublished at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Man Utd 4-0 Norwich

    Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, speaking to BBC Sport: “I enjoyed today, it was a great performance from everyone. It is a good example of how good we can play. We need to play like this on a consistent basis if we want to get a Champions League spot.

“Coming from the right I have space to cross with my left foot. Luckily today Marcus (Rashford) and Anthony (Martial) put the ball in the net.

“It is frustrating when I don’t play. I am still hungry to help my team with goals and assists. Like every player, when I don’t play I am not happy. But I have to always be available for the team.”

  12. 'Very pleased with Marcus'published at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Man Utd 4-0 Norwich

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking to BBC Sport: "Very happy. We started on the front foot. When you can walk off, and I am sure the opposition are talking about Man Utd as a very hard working team, that is what I want from my team.

"In any Premier League game you have to take advantage of the pressure and domination you get. Second half was very good.

On Marcus Rashford: "Fantastic effort by Marcus getting to 200 games so quickly. He got through most of the game, he is struggling a little bit so we took him off. He kept his cool. Very pleased with Marcus."

"We reacted today, we can bounce back and we are taking more than two or three steps forward before one back, because behind the scenes we know we are doing good work."

  13. 'Best away performance of the season'published at 17:12 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Leicester 1-2 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, speaking to Match of the Day: "Fantastic game today from both sides. A good feeling every second of this game that we could win here. It was maybe the best away performance from us this season.

"We played fantastically quick behind the lines. We had to be nervous until the end but we tried to press them high and keep them away from our goal. It was a fantastic game I think.

"It was a very important game for us in this season. We changed completely our mind and worked so hard to find a successful way and at the moment to see this team play enjoyable all the time."

  14. 'I'm happy to help the players today'published at 17:10 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    FT: Wolves 1-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka: "We started very well, scored a good goal and tried to keep the ball. Unfortunately we conceded a goal from a set-piece, so we have to work on that for our next game."

On his saves: "I only had half a second to react. I'm happy to help the players today. If we can take one point at least, these kind of saves are a bonus for me."

On Newcastle's injuries: “Hopefully the injuries aren’t bad ones and they can be ready for next game.”

  15. 'We didn't play so well'published at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    FT: Wolves 1-1 Newcastle

    Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to Match of the Day: "We had chances – not so many but we did have chances. We didn’t play so well, but we got better. Their keeper made some good saves.

"We started poorly and weren’t focused. We lost too many second balls, but we reacted well. Newcastle didn’t create too many problems for us after that, but they were well organised and we didn’t find the right spaces."

  16. 'Today is how we should play consistently'published at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Man Utd 4-0 Norwich

    Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata: "It was very good performance. Very good response to our last defeat. We played great football today. We enjoyed it on the pitch, found some nice spaces.

"Today is a good example of how I believe we should play on a more consistent basis.

"There are more teams that will fight to get that (Champions League) position. Chelsea is going to earn points so we must focus on our results."

  17. 'We are enjoying our football'published at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 11 January 2020

    Southampton

Southampton match winner Danny Ings: "We did everything we could to turn it around and we've done that and better. So proud of the team.

"We take each game as it comes. We have smiles on our faces, we are getting back to enjoying football."
