As if to underline the point, Watford manager Nigel Pearson sheds his outer coat, and is now sporting a Tim Sherwood-style gilet over his tracksuit.

Oooof! That's got the home crowd going. A good passing move ends with Adam Smith having a scruffy effort on goal. It's deflected and almost lands at the feet of Dominic Solanke but Ben Foster does well to spread himself.

Troy Deeney throws himself at a header in classic Troy Deeney style. He fails to make proper connection and runs away after the referee appealing for a penalty. He reckons Simon Francis was pulling his shirt.

Straight away the tempo of the game has been quite good but Bournemouth have got to be good in possession today.

It's all Watford. A horrible pass from Dan Gosling in middle lets Ismaila Sarr break but Steve Cook gets in to block the winger's shot behind for a corner.

Nathan Ake has started out at left-back on his return for Bournemouth. It's captain Simon Francis and Steve Cook in the middle.

No rest for the injured. Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, out with a minor hamstring problem today, is behind the goal in the Steve Fletcher Stand to help crank up the home fans in their most vocal area.

Eddie Howe called this match "season-defining," and the Cherries have also handed out thousands of flags to add to the carnival atmosphere. But Watford have travelled in good numbers, with plenty of yellow and black on show in the away section.

Watford are normally never shy of wearing their away strip on the road, even when there's not a clash - but clearly referee Mike Dean is happy with their yellow and black halved home shirts, worn today, providing enough contrast with Bournemouth's red and black stripes.

Mike Dean is the ref today which is always a delight.
