I think Mahrez has been brilliant in recent weeks for Manchester City. He is so difficult to mark. Today they have left Sterling on the bench, they have Sane coming back. In forward areas they are incredible. We talk about them a lot defensively, they have conceded a late goal here and I think Pep Guardiola will be disappointed they have not kept a clean sheet. It looks like they are now putting in those consecutive high performances after a slight dip.

That was superb from Sergio Aguero. Big players turn up in big moments. He played phenomenally today. Even if you take his goals out, he did ever so well. He looked lively straight from the start, his movement was great, his passing looked sharp, his first touch too. All outstanding. He's had an incredible afternoon. He deserves it for what he has created over the years for Manchester City.

Dean Smith is applauding the Villa fans who remain. So is Tyrone Mings. Mings has had a brutal afternoon.

I think for a long time it has been apparent that as a contest it was going to be an easy one for Manchester City. At times, you look at the fans and to watch this City team play really is a joy. Aston Villa are on the end of a walloping but Manchester City really are incredible at times and you can see why they have been winning trophies and competing at the top.

Aston Villa's best chance comes in the 87th minute at 6-0 down. Ederson comes for a cross but doesn't get there. Jack Grealish turns and shoots but gets it horribly wrong, blazing the ball well, well wide.

JoeD: How many players have been responsible for giving away 3 goals on their club debut - other than Drinkwater?

JP: Liverpool at Etihad would be a humdinger. May very decide if the Reds remain undefeated this season.

Sergio Aguero has already broken one record today and he has another as a result of that hat-trick. He has moved clear of Alan Shearer in the most Premier League hat-tricks chart (12).

There is still time for more Man City goals but there won't be many left to see them if they come.

The finish is as emphatic as we would expect from Sergio Aguero. Some goals today have been outstanding but some have been Aston Villa shooting themselves in the foot. This was one of those. They passed it straight to the feet of Mahrez who sent it straight towards Aguero. He was never going to miss.

Jason Moore: It's not overly enjoyable to say but Sergio Aguero is absolutely different class. Scary to think how many he would have scored if he'd have cut out the injuries that seemed to happen at least a couple of times a season. 30/40 league goals a season.
