What a terrific goal that was. He picks the ball up 40 yards from goal and as he is arriving, he hardly moves the ball just passes it int the near post. Terrific goal from Mahrez and it left Aston Villa wondering what had just happened.

Sergio Aguero has looked very sharp in the opening minutes. He has come deep on one of two occasions. The fact that Jesus is also in the team just allows him to do that. The moment he comes into deeper positions, Jesus runs into a a more out-and-out striker position. The play between the two of them is excellent.

Norwegian Orjan Nyland was impressive for Aston Villa in the League Cup in midweek and he continues in goal today in place of Tom Heaton, who is another of Villa's injury absentees.

City are yet to really test Nyland. Sergio Aguero slips at the crucial moment as he gets into a decent shooting area.

The Aston Villa fans have been quite noisy so far.

They have just baited their Manchester City counterparts with 'Champions of Europe, you'll never sing that."

Villa won the European Cup in 1982, when they beat Bayern Munich in Rotterdam, thanks to Peter Withe's goal.

City have a solitarty semi-final appearance to their name despite their recent domestic success.

They play Real Madrid in the last 16 next month.

The Villa fans are having some light-hearted fun, singing "Champions of Europe, you'll never sing that" at their Manchester counterparts.

I'm pretty sure I once passed Danny Drinkwater at the top of a hill in the Lake District. He was well wrapped up but I'm almost certain it was him.

Anyway, as Leon says, the England midfielder has had a couple of nice touches early on.

I think Danny Drinkwater will be pleased with his start. When you have gone so long without playing, those first moments can always be a little bit nervous. He has made some good passes, his first touch has been good. He will be pleased, let's hope he can continue.

Jack Grealish is right up along side Anwar El Ghazi early on. The latter is knocked off the ball easily and another Man City attack builds. There are already a couple of groans from the stands. The pattern is now set.

Aston Villa have won only three of their 49 Premier League matches against the reigning champions (D14 L32), losing each of their last 11 in a row.

Will they fare better today? Man City haven't been able to settle fully yet.

It actually looks more like a 4-4-2 for Man City with Mendy at left-back, Stones and Fernandinho at centre-back and Cancelo at right-back. Aston Villa have the first chance but Anwar El Ghazi's header is well wide.

And we're off.

Man City are in their black away kit today. We're expecting it to be a back three of John Stones, Fernandinho and Rodri.

Jack Grealish will be key today and if Aston Villa are to do anything in this game, then they have to pose a threat to Manchester City. It can't all be one-way traffic and allow City to dictate the game. Villa have to break out and cause this Manchester City side problems at the other end of the field if they want to compete this afternoon.

It has taken him 24 hours to go full Tommy Shelby.

"Hi Ho, Aston Villa" sings Villa Park. It looks full to the brim today. Jack Grealish is having a good chat with his mascot in the tunnel.

Grealish's side start this game in the bottom three as a result of Watford's win earlier.

When I first trained with Sergio Aguero, I didn't think he was that good! He doesn't train that well, he doesn't work that hard and then the first game we played, he scored. He's one of those players who doesn't need to turn it on in training because he's just so naturally gifted come game time, he's ready. To see him do so well, it's an incredible achievement for him. Obviously for me it's great to have played with someone of that calibre. For him to be going up against the likes of Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry for goals, it just shows you how well he's done and he deserves everything he gets.

As long Sergio Aguero is at Manchester City, he will always score goals. He's not the greatest of trainers - he saves all his efforts for on the pitch, so I'm told, which is what everyone wants to see. Aguero is probably one of the more old school players in that regards in that he can take it easy all week and prepare his body for the weekend. And when he does get out there, what performances he puts on. It's an unbelievable record he's got and he continues to score the goals we all expect him to do.
