Evans Njomo: Who remembers when Eddie Howe was linked with the Arsenal coach job before Unai Emery joined? Sadly Bournemouth might go down this season. Same scenario with Stoke who used to survive in the top flight but finally went down.

There is a quite incredible statistic around Aston Villa midfielder Danny Drinkwater.

Of his last five games, including today, four have been against Manchester City.

His last Premier League appearance for Chelsea was against City in 2018, his only appearance for the Blues last term was against City in the Community Shield and the last of his two games for Burnley this term was against Pep Guardiola's men.

He has lost the other three.

This is Aston Villa's first league game since striker Wesley was seriously injured at Burnley. Fellow striker Jonathan Kodjia is also out so that means Anwar El Ghazi starts up front.

It won't be the line-up Dean Smith will have wanted to pick against Manchester City.

More from Eddie Howe, speaking to Sky Sports: "The first goal was a big shift, up until then it was two quite even teams. Not a lot in it. We conceded and the second half was a lot more difficult, we dipped, they rose with the confidence.

"I'm not going to blame anybody, we are trying to do the right thing just haven't executed it very well. Confidence, nerves, it is such a key thing - we have been on a difficult run and this week key players have got injured. We had players playing that aren't 100% fit. When you get a setback were not able to lift ourselves in the way we normally would.

"We are not looking free-scoring and when you concede a goal it seems a long way back. We need to focus on both disciplines. The manager always has to take responsibility when things aren't going well. Instilling confidence back to the players is my job."

As a Bournemouth fan it pains to say that Eddie needs to either leave or be ruthless and remove the rot from the team. Fraser isn't performing and is soon to be a free, Solanke is not performing and Wilson is off the mark. Bring in new players or the development squad to show you don't get to wear the shirt without the performance.

Looking at Eddie Howe on screen, he looks white as a ghost. I really think it's too much of an ask for Bournemouth and I'm very, very worried for them. You have to go and spend big and to be fair, if I'm on the board at Bournemouth, I've already given Howe £75m net to spend in the last two years - and it hasn't really worked. So, if you're worried about going down, are you really going to give him a lot of money to again go and spend? I don't know.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe speaking to Match of the Day: "Tough game, we battled and stuck to the game in the first half. It wasn't a great performance from either team before half-time but the goal sucked the life out of us and gave them a boost.

"We needed to do better. We weren't creative enough, similar to recent weeks, and the first goal is a hammer blow for us. It is a team thing and we didn't execute what we wanted, put ourselves under pressure and conceded a poor goal.

"We all learn from those moments and the team has to take responsibility. It was difficult for us today, we had a strong team, good balance, so it's disappointing. We are always concerned when we don't win. We were desperate to do well. The first goal damaged us mentally and we didn't recover. We are in a diff moment and need to lift ourselves."

On his position: "Always looking at whether you are doing good enough, that is something I have to reflect on."

Watford are in the relegation fight and whatever Nigel Pearson has done - whether it is a bit of a rocket - then it's worked. He knows more than anyone, he's an experienced manager and he's probably got a bit of a good-cop-bad-cop situation going on in there - Craig Shakespeare is probably the one putting the arms around the players whereas Pearson will be getting into them. Whatever the formula is hey have going at Watford, it's working.

Aleksander Pagels: I really want to defend Eddie Howe but I just realized that this defeat vs Watford means they've recently lost to all the five teams just above the bottom 3, and scored a goal in just one of those games. That must be worrying if you're a Bournemouth fan.

It's about confidence now. I'm looking at every single Bournemouth player, they are all hands on knees, some are on the floor, it's very, very worrying times. How do you pick yourself up from this now? Of course you have to but the confidence has been shot. They have not tested Ben Foster today, not had a chance, defended poorly and Watford, for me, were only in third gear.

The away fans were singing "we can see you sneaking out" when the score was still 2-0, but the Bournemouth supporters began leaving in droves when the third goal went in. The home sections were barely half full by the time Mike Dean blew the final whistle, and - it doesn't happen often here - there were a few boos.
