    Watford

Watford manager Nigel Pearson: "It was a game we felt we created enough to win. They have had their situations and chances as well. In the first half we did not quite get our pressing as well as we have at late. We grew into the game and started to take more control. We had a good chance to win."

On the penalty miss: "It’s football. I said to the players I am looking for a performance and we had a good performance today. If we go out with every intention to win the game then we will play well. I am pleased with how we played football today."

On a busy week ahead: "It’s going to be very busy. The important point is to get the players fit after today. We have to look ahead to the game against Aston Vila. It’s important to get our recovery right."

On the goal-line technology: "It was millimetres? Lovely! Good."

The sun is out in Manchester today for Pep Guardiola’s 49th birthday, but will he celebrate his big day with a win?

Pep has managed a birthday bonanza once before - winning El Clasico no less, at the Bernabeu in the Copa del Rey as Barca boss in 2012.

But, as well as blowing out a LOT of candles, he has another birthday challenge today - can he become the first City manager to win a Premier League game on his birthday - four of his predecessors - Brian Horton, Joe Royle, Mark Hughes and Roberto Mancini (twice) have all had a chance, and failed.

Anything less than three points and Pep will probably wish he could celebrate the same way he did when he turned 46 in 2017 - by taking his players to see La La Land at the local cinema instead., external

  5. 'I love goal-line technology, I respect that'published at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

Watford v Tottenham (KO 12:30 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho speaking to Match of the Day: "We played very well. We started the game without a striker but with lots of offensive players. We had the control of the game, especially in the first half, We arrived in dangerous positions, we created chances but we did not manage to score. I am happy with how we played, our commitment. I think the result is unfair, I think it would have been more unfair if we lost. We are not good at adapting to this style of football. We were quite difficult to play."

On the VAR decisions: "They did not discuss that one that should have been a penalty and then they looked at one that was clearly not. That’s also alongside the red cards that should have been. Very bad decisions. I love goal-line technology, I respect that."

  6. 'Overall it was a good match'published at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Jose Mourinho: "I talk about Tottenham's performance separate from refereeing and VAR decisions because I prefer not to comment.

"Tottenham's performance was good. We started very well. We were very dominant in the first half until they did what they always do - they had that period were they started winning more second balls, put more balls into the box and had one or two set plays. It's impossible to always dominate them.

"In the second half the game was more 50-50. We tried with the ammunition we have in the last period to bring more energy, more vision and more quality with Eriksen and were a few millimetres from wining the match.

"Overall it was a good match."

On refereeing decisions: "I leave the VAR decisions to the pundits.

"Gazza did a job for us and it's an important save.

"I think we deserve to win this match. To lose would have been too harsh on the boys."

Whatever happens during the game, Crystal Palace have already succeeded in silencing Manchester City today - well, their sound system at the Etihad anyway, according to the big screens here.

No pre-match tunes today - instead you get to listen to the gentle hum of the fans as they arrive, take their seats and chat to their neighbours.

It's quite refreshing not to be deafened for a change, to be honest.

Almost a month as a manager for Mikel Arteta in North London, but this is a genuine test of Arsenal's progression under him.

Their home form has been questionable for the bulk of the campaign, and they’re facing a team who know how to frustrate on their travels.

Arteta says he’s been ‘really impressed‘ with Sheffield United this season, and that he has warned his players of the Blades capabilities. I think Chris Wilder’s side will quietly fancy their chances of adding another chapter to their fairytale season today.

Spurs have been boring today. No threat or control of the game. I predict a finish outside the top six. First time in a decade!

Looking at this performance against a poor Spurs side Watford aren't out of the woods yet. Injury to Sarr for example and I can see their form turning again. Still say it's a long shot for them to stay up.
