    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

    Sam Parkin
Former Luton Town forward on BBC Radio London

This game is lacking in quality. You would expect more chances in this game. At least there has been more chances this half.

  2. Paying the penaltypublished at 14:02 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

Troy Deeney has missed three of his last six penalties taken in the Premier League; he had only missed one of the first 13 he took in the competition before this.

  3. 'Great save'published at 14:02 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Fulham keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brilliant goalkeeping - great save. Goalkeeper's picked the right way and it's a good height for him, of course, however you have got to go the right way and stay on your feet for as long as possible and Gazzaniga pulls off a very vital save for Tottenham.

As that substitution takes place, the stadium rises in unison to applaud Graham Taylor, who sadly passed away - aged 72 - almost three years ago.

Lovely to see and a great mark of respect to a great man.

Is it just me or are Saturday lunchtime matches always low on excitement and quality?!

  8. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 69 mins

    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

    Saved!

We're still awaiting that quality finish.

It is a poor penalty from Troy Deeney, at a good height for Gazzaniga to dive to his right and push away.

  9. PENALTYpublished at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

    And here is the moment!

The ball is cut back for Gerard Deulofeu and his shot is blocked by the outstretched arm of Jan Vertonghen, in an unnatural position. It'll get checked but that is surely a spot kick.

Too tight to call this. There have been chances for both sides so far this half. When someone finally takes the onus to produce a good finish we could well have our winner.

xXx Sonia xXx: RE: All these anti-VAR posts, calls and chants: It’s not the new video technology that’s the problem, it works in all other sports (and countries), it’s the referees and officials and rules (= the FA) that are wrong, years behind and just can’t keep up!

Sarah Morgan: I'm an Arsenal and Michael Oliver fan and even I say Spurs should be a man up. That tackle from Capoue could have shattered Tanganga's knee and career!

I think it is fair that both players are given yellow cards there. Doucoure just over-reacted a little bit to the challenge from Harry Winks.

The chances continue to come and players keep wasting them. Lamela has the ball at his feet deep in the box and in space but he scuffs his effort into the chest of Dawson and wide.

There is a check for handball, but it wasn't.

  14. 'Proper fisticuffs'published at 13:50 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2020

    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

    Conor McNamara
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

That was proper fisticuffs - normally it is just posturing and rubbing foreheads together. There was at least one proper dig thrown by both sides there.

Another good opening, another poor effort.

Son shows great pace to gather a loose ball behind the Watford defence, but the most crucial bit - the shot - is all wrong. He fires it over.

  16. VAR

VAR has a good look but there is no need for any more than a yellow for each.

  17. YELLOW CARDSpublished at 59 mins

    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

It's kicking off. A host of players come together to push and shove each other after Doucoure goes down. He and Winks exchange a few swings at each other and VAR will take a look. It is a yellow card for both on the field.

Richard Byrne: Fluking their way to the CL final just papered over the cracks for Spurs and provided Levy with justification for his parsimonious regime.

Great tackle, Adam Masina. Spurs break and look to feed the ball to Son, who is charging into the box, but across comes the Hornets defender with a perfectly-timed tackle to stop the attack dead.

Why doesn't Jose try Dele at striker? Better hold up play, wingers feed off of him, great runs. He's wasted playing this deep and it shows in Spurs' performance.

Mourinho out ,should never have been in, not one of Levy's best decisions, is Keith Burkinshaw still available?
