Watford have dragged themselves into this now. The traffic is not quite so one way.

Gerard Deulofeu wants a free-kick (maybe even a penalty) as he goes down under a challenge from Lo Celso near the edge of the box. Won't get one, though. Went down way too easily.

I don't think it was a pull-back I think Tanganga loses his footing and falls on to him. I think it was a free-kick but I don't think it was a red card.

    Speaking of making a mess...

Nathaniel Chalobah tries to catch our Gazzaniga with a free-kick round the wall. He is nowhere near with it, though, instead hitting the stand behind the goal.

    Nigel Pearson is understandably furious.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20 mins

    Watford 0-0 Tottenham

Japhet Tanganga makes a right old mess of this. Misjudges his clearing, header, gifts possession to a Watford player on the edge of the box and then fouls his man for a dangerous free-kick and a yellow card.

Best opening so far for Watford. Lamela has the ball nicked off him by Doucoure, who charges down the left and into the box. His pull-back is to Ismaila Sarr, but after weaving to find space he badly slices his shot high and wide.

Anthony Blunt: Have all spurs fans (I am one btw) forgotten what a fantastic player and by modern standards, loyal player Christian Eriksen is?

Amrul Choudhury: Eriksen is a good Premier League midfielder but certainly not top bracket. He does special things but does not have the consistency of the great midfielders.

Finally a bit of possession for the home side. They can't take the ball anywhere, though, and Spurs are all over them like a rash. They're sharper, the visitors.

Serge Aurier might consider himself a bit lucky here. He's gone in with a wild tackle on Adam Masina - not controlled at all. It is a foul, but there's no card.

DaveDShelfSide: Massive game for Spurs. Need 3 points to avoid 3 PL losses on the bounce. #CloseTheGap #FourthPlace

Angus Robb: On Christian Eriksen. Even at his best Christian has never been effective in the biggest games Spurs have played. He is not fast enough and oppo managers can neutralise him easily. He lacks the pace to get space and break through the top teams' midfields

Still all Spurs. They craft space again on the edge of the box but Japhet Tanganga's effort is weak and easily saved.

Jose will be pleased with the start.

Son is a free man wide left. He has picked up a few well-struck passes in space. He does so again here, but his dinked cross floats over everyone in the box.

Tottenham are seeing more of the ball, but this is a disciplined Watford side under Pearson. They are digging in well and denying any clear-cut opportunities.

    Sam Parkin
Former Luton Town forward on BBC Radio London

They may have no recognised striker but I think this is a very attacking line-up in midfield for Tottenham. They are almost playing without a holding player. You can see already they are pushing forward and will leave themselves open to Watford counter-attacks.

Lamela swings the corner in but Ben Foster is out with a big punch to clear it from danger. Spurs come again, but Erik Lamela fires wide after cutting in from the right.

Someone is giving a drum an absolute pasting in the stands at Vicarage Road. It sounds like they're playing a game of Jumanji.

Spurs have a corner - the first of the game.

First shot on target comes from Spurs, but Son Heung-min's effort is tame and easily stopped by Ben Foster.

Action at both ends. Spurs want a penalty as the ball bounces about and could have struck a home players' arm (replays show it did, but the flick from Moura was really close to the marking man). Gerard Deulofeu then charges away down the other end before firing wide.

It's just such a fun remembrance of Graham Taylor. He's part of the DNA of this club. There is a lovely statue outside and a bench that fans have a photo with. What an impact he made at this club. He's part of the Watford family.
