  1. Goodnight!published at 16:45 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2019

    FT: Cyprus 1-2 Scotland

Well, it wasn't pretty but we got the job done. Perhaps one day Scotland will be a scintillating, attacking side that take international tournaments by storm but at the moment we're very much a work in progress. Rome wasn't built in a day and it may take even longer for Steve Clarke to put out a Scotland side with a clean bill of health.

Until then we march on in support. I hope you enjoyed tonight's coverage and we'll be back with more of the same on Tuesday when Kazakhstan travel to Hampden for the final game of the group.

  2. 'Steven Naismith is fine' - Clarkepublished at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2019

    FT: Cyprus 1-2 Scotland

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke has confirmed that Hearts forward Steven Naismith is absolutely fine, despite coming off after what looked like an injury.

Speaking after he 2-1 win over Cyprus, Clarke said: "Steven is fine. The substitution was already going ahead [before the injury]. In my head it was pre-planned. He was shouting at me that he was fine and didn't want to come off but it was something that I had in my mind to do anyway."

  3. Reaction to equaliser 'really pleasing' says Clarkepublished at 16:38 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2019

    FT: Cyprus 1-2 Scotland

More from Scotland head coach Steve Clarke, who has praised his side's response to Cyprus' equaliser at the start of the second half.

Clarke said: "Really pleasing because it was something we spoke about at half-time. Our reaction to the adversity of losing the first goal in Russia wasn't great, but the reaction to 1-1 tonight was really good and we got back in front with a great team goal.

"I feel we're still a work in progress and getting better."

  5. 'Result more important than performance' - Clarkepublished at 16:33 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2019

    FT: Cyprus 1-2 Scotland

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke tells BBC Sportsound: "I'm not going to say it was a fantastic peformance - it was a good performance. And sometimes when you're coming out of the run of games we have had, the result is more important than the performance.

"The win tonight was crucial because it gives us the opportunity to go home against Kazakhstan and get another three points to set us up nicely for the play-offs in March.

"It was important to build on the San Marino victory. We knew coming here would be a difficult game because it was difficult at Hampden in June."

  6. 'The better team lost today'published at 16:31 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2019

    FT: Cyprus 1-2 Scotland

Cyprus coach Ran Ben Shimon:“I’m proud of my players. We are going to take the good things and improve and carry on. I have respect for the winners. We tried to play football in all the stages of the match. We prepared for long balls but not that many long balls. I believe that the better team lost today."

On Georgios Efrem's effort that appeared to cross the line: "This was a decisive moment of the game. I saw it. It was half a metre inside."

I think John McGinn has become really important to what Steve Clarke is wanting to do with his shape - most of the time McGinn is asked to move central in support of the striker. He's asked him now only out of possession to play further forward, but encouraged him to get into the box - his goal tonight was a terrific finish.

  10. 'More impetus for fewer call-offs now'published at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2019

The win builds momentum and that's what we were looking for. Steve Clarke still has players to call on and there is maybe more impetus for them to say yes to Scotland now. An away win is something to be celebrated, but there remains work to be done at the back.

Even from a wide position, where he was less able to orchestrate proceedings, the Celtic man looked the most likely Scotland player to make something happen. His goal looked effortless and was executed with the composure of a man on top form who knows exactly what he wants to do. Now a key man for club and country, his fitness levels allow him to continue to press, chase and harry opposition defenders until the final minute.

  13. 'Result a step forward towards March' - McGinnpublished at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2019

    FT: Cyprus 1-2 Scotland

Goalscorer John McGinn says despite it "not being pretty" at times, the result was important for Scotland to build momentum for the Nations League play offs.

"There’s a lot of new faces, and there was a winning mentality, even though it wasn’t pretty near the end," he said to Sky Sports.

"It’s so important to try and build towards March and it’s a step forward - and hopefully we can do the same Tuesday against Kazakhstan."

  20. FULL-TIME Cyprus 1-2 Scotlandpublished at 15:55 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2019

And it is finally over! Scotland have won all three points after 90 minutes of football that has surely aged most of us by a few years.

Steve Clarke's side move in to third place in Group I and can confirm their place by avoiding defeat against Kazakhstan at Hampden on Tuesday. Easier said than done, mind...

Be sure to stick around for all the reaction after today's match.
