    Cyprus 0-1 Scotland

Liam Palmer plucks a clearance from the corner out of the air - amidst pressure from no less than two Cyprus players - and fires a shot towards goal. It looks as though it was about to fly in to the top corner if not for a deflection along the way knocking it wide.

Down that right Demetriou picks out a really good ball - we're lucky Costi fell over his own feet because if he takes a good touch he probably equalises for Cyprus. Big let-off for Scotland.

    Cyprus 0-1 Scotland

Cyprus right-back Jason Demetriou plays an outstanding through ball in to the Scotland box and immediately slices through the Scotland defence, where Ioannis Costi is patiently waiting for the ball but the attacker can't take a proper touch and control it well enough to hit a shot.

It wasn't exactly a clear-cut chance but we can still applaud fantastic passing, right?

  5. CLOSE!published at 31 mins

    Cyprus 0-1 Scotland

Ryan Christie has been at the heart of every Scotland attack so far and from the corner he swings a cross in to the Cyprus box to find Scott McKenna with plenty of time and space to head a ball towards goal. The defender's attempt smacks off the ground and ultimately lands comfortably in the goalkeeper's hands.

Cyprus showing they can be dangerous as well - Marshall has to beat away a good shot. They are asking a question or two of us.

  7. CLOSE!published at 26 mins

    Cyprus 0-1 Scotland

Pieros Sotiriou picks up the ball on the edge of the Scotland box and fires a right-footed shot towards goal but David Marshall is on hand to parry the ball to his left.

The visitors collect the ball and counter attack through John McGinn and then James Forrest, before the Celtic midfielder finds Ryan Christie on the edge of the opposing box. The midfielder tries to curl another shot but the Cypriot goalkeeper comfortably saves.

We've looked good going forward. We've looked dangerous, but we have to stay fully focused defensively because they have good technical players, have hit some good passes, hit the crossbar, worked the areas - we can't switch off.

    Ouch!published at 22 mins

    Cyprus 0-1 Scotland

Pieros Sotiriou and John McGinn contest for a set-piece at the back post and while the ball goes out wide of David Marshall's goal the two players seem to have hit each other in the head. Hiowever, the Aston Villa midfielder rubs his head and gets on with it.

  10. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Cyprus 0-1 Scotland

We're only 20 minutes in to the game but it seems as though Ryan Christie is playing right up alongside Steven Naismith and in a number of occasions seems to be further forward than his Hearts counterpart.

It's so stupid what Merkis is doing. Naismith is holding it, not really going anywhere, and he fouls him. He's letting us out of our half easily.

    Cyprus 0-1 Scotland

Steven Naismith is making a nuisance of himself in the Cyprus half. That's two or three fouls he's won after collecting a long ball from the Scotland defence before being brought down by a defender. The Hearts striker gestures to the referee to suggest that he best start taking note of these consecutive fouls.

Ryan Christie’s goal was a joy to behold; the colourful scenes in the away end as fans in pink, yellow and blue danced around in celebration was almost as pleasing on the eye.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 15 mins

Callum McGregor goes in to the referee's book for apparently time-wasting. Seems like an odd booking in the 15th minute.

It's just brilliant play, it was a lovely little turn by McGinn out to Christie but he still has to execute that finish and he doesn't disappoint. Bends it over the goalkeeper who has no chance.

    Ryan Christie

Scotland open the scoring with a superb long-range finish. The Celtic midfielder picks the ball up on the right flank and continues drifting inside unopposed until he's offered the time and space to curl a shot in to the top left corner.

    Cyprus v Scotland

    Keir Murray

That looked like it had crossed the line. From our vantage point in the main stand, Georgios Efrem’s rasping shot looked to have bounced beyond the goalline. Much excited chatter among the home fans, while the Tartan Army, easily outnumbering the Cypriot supporters, has been silenced.

  18. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Cyprus 0-0 Scotland

Scotland look very nervous as David Marshall cuts inside to avoid a striker closing him down, only to then clear the ball to another Cypriot player. A colleague clears the ball but it hasn't exactly been a comfortable start.

Efrem shows he has got technical ability, he turns, twists, worked it well, he's beaten David Marshall and I think we've maybe got away with one there. It's a real let-off, it's really close.
