There's probably been more attention on the Barnsley board room in the past few days rather than their predicament on the pitch at the foot of the Championship table.

The Tykes are claiming compensation for the services of former manager Daniel Stendel who has now started life in a new job north of the border at Hearts.

But Hearts are disputing that case while Stendel himself has said he was dismissed with immediate effect back in October.

One thing that is for sure is the fact current boss Gerhard Struber needs a win to stop his side getting cut adrift before presents get left under Christmas trees.

The visit of Reading this evening may present such a chance with the Royals arriving at Oakwell on a run of three defeats in their past four.

Derby County v Sheffield Wednesday (19:45 GMT)

They say the league table never lies, but in Sheffield Wednesday's case, they may need to enjoy how it looks right now before things could all change for the worse.

EFL disciplinary charges and a potential points deduction are hanging over the Owls in relation to the sale of their stadium to owner Dejphon Chansiri, but for now they sit seventh and two points off the play-offs.

Another win tonight at out-of-form Derby would certainly put them among the form horses in the division.

Derby have won just once in the past five league games and are pretty much the dictionary definition of mid-table - nine points off the play-offs and eight above the relegation zone.

  3. Baggies looking to reclaim top perchpublished at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2019

Wigan v West Brom (19:45 GMT)

West Brom have got used to having to wait for their turn in recent weeks, having seen Leeds in action the night before on several occasions.

Tonight, they'll have to do more of the same if they want to keep ahead of the rest.

Leeds' win against Hull last night means the Baggies need to repeat that against struggling Wigan to regain top spot.

Their hosts are not having the best of times right now as they sit second from bottom and winless in their past eight.

But Paul Cook has had a knack throughout his managerial career at masterminding upsets, could we see more of the same this evening?

The biggest change in the table this evening will mainly be felt among the bunch bidding to get into the top six.

Sheffield Wednesday know they can climb above Preston with a win at Derby.

Just a point and a place separates Brentford and Cardiff City before their meeting at Griffin Park while the difference is even less than that for Swansea and Blackburn in 11th and 10th respectively.

Both have 30 points from their 20 games and a goal difference of zero, but Rovers with 27 goals scored so far this campaign have the narrow advantage over the Swans, who have netted 25 times.

Odds-on a score draw this evening?

  7. Tale of the tablepublished at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2019

So as mentioned, we could see another change of lead at the top of the Championship tonight with West Brom hoping to reclaim their place on the summit from Leeds.

A win for Slaven Bilic's men at Wigan would also open up a very handy gap to third-placed Fulham.

The Baggies are the only current top six side in action as well tonight.

At the other end of the table meanwhile, the bottom two have opportunities to claim much-needed victories when Barnsley and Wigan host Reading and West Brom respectively.
