Right idea from Danny Ings as he tries the one-two with Moussa Djenepo but Ryan Fredericks intercepts. Feels like West Ham are dropping deeper. Dangerous.

    Steve Brown
Former Charlton Athletic defender on BBC Radio London

Southampton fans are so starved of opportunities that that chance just got a round of applause. West Ham were not defending well there, there was a few players there who were not anywhere near a Southampton player. But, Southampton are just not doing enough to challenge West Ham at the minute.

Despite results not being great, the West Ham players still seem to be playing for Pellegrini, doesn't seem to have lost the dressing room.

Andy White: VAR terrible again. It's a good system just not operated well.

Noel Fitzpatrick: That was VAR at its best, would have been very unfair on Saints if Antonio got away with that.

A shame that goal was ruled out from an aesthetic point of view as it really was a beauty of a strike.

Southampton still in this, then, although they do need to up their game. West Ham much the better side.

  14. 'Redmond looked disinterested first half'published at 18:37 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Southampton 0-1 West Ham

    Steve Brown
Former Charlton Athletic defender on BBC Radio London

Nathan Redmond was awful first half, truly awful. I have seen him tear sides up before and he can be unplayable but he look disinterested today. You would have to ask the manager if he is pointing the finger at him but his performance was so poor that it was obvious he was either going to get 10 minutes to prove himself or be dragged and he's gone. That's as poor as I have ever seen him.

Good response by Southampton though as Shane Long keeps a lost cause in on the corner flag. He plays the ball back for Cedric who whips a first time cross into the box but the ball baloons off James Ward-Prowse's head.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 47 mins

    Southampton 0-1 West Ham

The Southampton defence must be still in the dressing room as Pablo Fornals has the freedom of St Mary's to get a shot off on goal. It is a strong hit but Alex McCarthy is equal to it.

A change for Southampton at the start of the second half as Oriol Romeu comes on for Nathan Redmond. Looks like a tactical switch, going three up top?

  19. 'A bit of a boxing match'published at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Sheff Utd 2-0 Aston Villa

    Sheffield United

A bit more from Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder, speaking to Match of the Day: "For me, 25 points after 17 games is brilliant and we can be delighted with a good afternoon's work.

"We're just carrying on. We've reacted to a disappointing results and we have stuck a bit of daylight between ourselves and those at the bottom.

"It was a bit of a boxing match in the first half but in the second half we really took the game to them and I thought we deserved the result.

"We had to keep our discipline and concentration and keep knocking n the door. It was a great first goal, a fantastic second goal, it was a disappointing VAR decision but we got away with the penalty being missed."

On potential January signings: "We're maybe just light on a couple of positions that we maybe need to cover but I'm sure we'll get that done."

  20. 'These games are dangerous'published at 18:29 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Leicester 1-1 Norwich

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers: "We did not start well and worked our way back into it. We needed a little bit of luck or something to go our way. We just could not find that quality in the final third to get the winner. I have a number of players who can come in and perform."

On changing the tactics: "It was a case of starting with the same starting XI as last week but it clearly was not working so we changed it and got better width and better positioning. We looked much better in the second half. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. We made the change and the players reacted well. These are games which can be really dangerous. If you are not at your best you have to make sure you do not lose."
