I'm quite impressed with Newcastle today. They've changed the system and they're looking lively - they've created two half-chances.

My one criticism would be that they aren't getting the ball into the two big centre-forwards early enough.

Villa pushing for the opener. El Ghazi nearly gets it, adjusting to get on a low cross before firing a shot that Alex McCarthy does really well to block.

Dan Bell: Ashley Barnes with a dangerous tackle but no card given. The lack of consistency is ridiculous.

It is coming up to a year since the Paraguayan joined the Magpies and 27 games and counting without a goal.

He shows great footwork to evade the attention of James McCarthy in the box, but curls a tame right-footed shot into the grasp of goalkeeper Vicente Guaita.

Norwich are giving this a real go. Alex Tettey picks up the ball on the edge of the box and drives a low shot that initially looks innocuous but strikes the inside of the post before the ball runs across goal.

There's been one brilliant chance so far for Isaac Hayden - but his legs just gave way from under him - I think he panicked.

But since the first minute or so, Palace have barely been out of their own half. I'd expect them to get better as the game goes on.

It has taken over 10 minutes but Palace see the Newcastle box for the first time.

Wilfried Zaha whips a cross towards Christian Benteke at the far post but Fabian Schar does well to nod away.

John McGinn's afternoon is over. He looks to have caused some damage to his ankle. It is an early blow to Villa, who send on Marvelous Nakamba in his place.

Simon Francis has a bad gash to the top of his head and needs patching up with a blue bandage wrapped around him.

He is OK to carry on though, Ashley Barnes comes over and gives him an apologetic tap.

No yellow card though.

It is ruled out. It was bundled in from a corner by Egan, but he used his hand in the process. We're back to 0-0.

This is what you get from an uncompromising centre forward.

A 50-50 ball breaks loose on the halfway line, Ashley Barnes goes in full blooded, catching the stooping Simon Francis on the side of the head with his hip.

The Bournemouth skipper has been receiving treatment for a few minutes now.

I think the two up top Newcastle have gone for has really surprised Palace - their defenders don't know who to mark at the moment.

A big well done to Steve Bruce for surprising Roy Hodgson.

Isaac Hayden is through on goal, goes round goalkeeper Vicente Guaita and with the goal gaping, falls over when trying to finish.

Rui Patricio forced into a save, diving low to his left to push aside a Kenny McLean angled effort.

Good build-up play from Newcastle and they certainly are firing the crosses into the box early in the contest.

Crystal Palace centre-back Cheikhou Kouyate and James Tomkins both stretching to head the ball away from inside the six yard box.

James Ward-Prowse draws a save from Tom Heaton with a free-kick that beats the wall but can't swing enough to cause the home keeper any bother.

Soon after, John McGinn is down and clearly in a lot of pain. It was a challenge with Cedric Soares that caused it.
