Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "The readiness to improve in the game and learn from the game [is what we had to do to win]. The set-up of Southampton I could not give more credit to. What a strange result in the end. It’s deserved because we score the goal but what a team.

"They had too many shots on target and we had to change in the second half. That helped massively and when we are rolling it’s difficult to stop.

"Even when it was 4-0 Southampton did not stop and I have so much respect for that.

On a possible Southampton penalty before Liverpool's first goal:

"It was a crucial moment. It does not mean it would have been over but the game would have been going in a different direction."

It has been a long time coming but Bruno Fernandes is finally about to make his Manchester United debut.

There was high expectation in the summer that Fernandes would sign for the Old Trafford outfit, only for the notion to be dismissed quite strongly by club officials.

Then, at the beginning of last month, Fernandes surfaced again as a potential option.

The deal was agreed last Tuesday, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saying on Friday that United have been monitoring the Portugal midfielder 'for years'.

It will be interesting to see where he plays.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Graham Potter speaking to Match of the Day: "There was resilience, character, some quality as well – I thought over the course of the game we more than deserved a point. To be heavily punished after the first goal and to come back was really pleasing to see. We need to build on this.

"We had to recover from their third goal and we did, and pushed and pushed and deservedly got the equaliser. I’m delighted with the character shown by the players.

"Glenn [Murray] is adamant it didn’t touch his arm and when we watched it back we didn’t think it has. He's shown his quality and his professionalism. He's consistently helped us from the side and the bench and you can see how he helped us today."

Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce told MOTD: "The most important thing is we haven't played well again, but we haven't been beaten. That's not a bad trait to have in the Premier League. But we all know we have to play better. We haven't done enough and we are disappointed.

"We set ourselves up to be difficult to beat. If you look at the record we've got, we've done fantastically well. Now we have to get a little bit of quality in forward areas. We have to improve in the midfield too because the strikers need something to feed off.

"We gave the ball away so cheaply today, which is is disappointing."

Watford

Watford boss Nigel Pearson, speaking to BBC MOTD: "This is certainly a lesson for us. It hurts for sure but we will continue to work through it. It's not the end of the world but it's certainly frustrating and annoying.

"The second goal was a free header - we can't allow that. You have got to deal with your man when you are marking.

"We have to recover. Confidence is something that you can build when you get some momentum. Likewise when it goes other way you have to show some resolve and manage the game better. Game management has let us down today."

Norwich City

Norwich manager Daniel Farke told MOTD: "Yes we're totally disappointed because we totally dominated. The level of the chances should be enough to win, especially an away game. It's not a bad result, but we are more disappointed than happy.

"I always respect the players. The put themselves in tough positions. We were dangerous. They did everything we asked for. We want them to be more brutal with their finishing, but these things happen sometimes. I'm happy with the performance, not the result.

"Newcastle have so much quality up front. I was happy with how we controlled the game, but not the outcome. A nearly perfect performance deserves three points.

"We're not playing to avoid losing, we're playing to win. It has been four top-class performances in a row."

Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg: "I think we should have scored first and then secondly I heard something about a penalty before it went 1-0 to them but that’s why they have VAR. I cannot say I am proud because we lost but the approach we had to keep going was a nice step from everyone.

"The way we tried to do it showed a good mentality from the boys and we now have important games coming up."

Watford

Watford's Adam Masina, speaking to Premier League Productions: "We know we have to win some games between now and end of the season. We are so disappointed with this result, it's a bad result for us.

"We have to learn. This is a lesson for us. We have to limit the mistakes. This is the Premier League. If you can win two in a row you are 14th in table. If you lose two you are last in the table.

"Every match is a final for us."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Glenn Murray, who scored the equaliser after a VAR check: "You’re scared to celebrate goals these days. I knew deep down that I didn’t touch it but the doubt sets in, and thankfully they made the right decision. When I turned round and realised there was no-one there it sent a bit of worry through me, but thankfully it stood.

"Things haven’t been going our way for a while now but it’s one of those moments where you think it could be pivotal. A big point.

"This gives us a boost. We’ve gone through a little bit of a sticky patch but I feel this afternoon as if we’ve stepped away from that and restored a bit of confidence in ourselves."

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer makes two changes to the side that started the 2-0 home defeat to Burnley in their last Premier League game.

Nemanja Matic is suspended and Brandon Williams drops to the bench, meaning new signing Bruno Fernandes starts, with Luke Shaw also coming in at the back.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo two changes to the side that narrowly lost to Liverpool in their last Premier League outing.

The annual ceremony in honour of the victims of the Munich air disaster has just been held at Old Trafford.

Players will wear black armbands for this afternoon's game and the song 'Flowers of Manchester' will be played over the tannoy 10 minutes before kick-off.

Eight players - including England internationals Duncan Edwards, Tommy Taylor and Roger Byrne - were amongst the 23 people who died when a plane carrying the United party back from a European Cup tie in Belgrade crashed following a refuelling stop in Munich on 6 February, 1958.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a big effort. It was a difficult game especially in the first half. They are a good team in form and they gave it a right go. We started the second half well and kicked on from there. We’re delighted with the result.

"We got the momentum back in the game. The Premier League is difficult and we had to work for it.

"Alisson had to make a few good saves again but overall it’s a brilliant win. We need to use this time as best we can to rest and when we come back be fresh to go again."
