I just want to see if Brighton's got that little bit of steel they need if they want to survive in this division. They'll need that today.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho speaking to MOTD: "I think you are going to be very bored with me, because I think I'm going to be very repetitive. I'm going to say exactly the same words I told against Leipzig.

"I'm very proud of the players, they gave absolutely everything. We don't have a striker. Our attacking players are not strikers and are in huge levels of fatigue, so very, very difficult for us. No tactical problems, [we were] completely in control of the space, punished by a couple of individual mistakes.

"In the last part of the game when Chelsea was scared of the 2-1 we didn't have that presence, that power, we didn't have that to do more than what we did.

"To create chances you need a target man or fast people that can interchange positions, you need a different dynamic to the team. We don't have a striker and we have tired players, it's as simple as that. We did very, very well. If we score before our opponent, I think we have a chance because we are well organised. But when they score before us and drop back it's very, very difficult for us.

"A defeat is a defeat, but the good thing is, in the last seconds the players were still fighting for a result and that for me is a very important thing."

On Lo Celso's challenge: "I didn't watch it. I didn't watch on TV and in the game. I don't know."

On returning to Stamford Bridge: "I didn't feel anything, honest. I was focused on the game, I didn't feel anything. No problem."

    Chelsea 2-1 Spurs

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard speaking to BT Sport about the Lo Celso tackle:

"It is not good enough, that is two VARs in two games, it is hard to shout about it when you have lost but today everybody saw that. It is a red.

"I hate to call for red cards but that is a leg breaker. I am not saying about referees on the spot, VAR is here to clear things up and it is not good enough."

  13. First goal wins (probably not)published at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2020

Only Wolves (18) have won more points from losing positions in the Premier League this season than Sheffield United (13). Chelsea

    Olivier GiroudImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea goalscorer Olivier Giroud: "It was a very important game for us today. I want to talk about the team spirit. We've shown great character today. We knew it was maybe a kind of turning point. We lost a bit of confidence. It was nice to bounce back and get this win, a hard win against a rival, so I feel relieved today.

"I was lucky the ball came back after hitting the post and I tried to finish. It was a good feeling for me, a good moment and I'm so happy for the team to win today. It's been three months I didn't start, it's been a special day for me and all of us.

"Tottenham is obviously a rival for the Champions League race, so we are pleased to put them four points behind us. This is the start of a good run, I hope, now we need to focus on the Champions League. This game would be nice for the confidence and for the changing room."

It is not a great day to be at the very top of a football stand. That view of Burnley may look cracking, especially if you're a fan of Lowry. But the wind is swirling in over the top of the shorter stand.

Could make things very interesting down on the pitch, especially for the two goalkeepers. It's the kind of day that used to produce some of Danny Baker's finest own goals and gaffes.

Cesar Azpilicueta has spoken about Lo Celso's challenge: "I'm not a player that likes to be on the floor because I'm tough but it was not my fault because it was a clear stamp on my shin, I felt it straight away.

"I was surprised it was not a red card, not even a yellow card. Obviously everybody makes mistakes but when you have a lot of replays it could be easier."

On the performance: "We showed great team spirit We are a squad and we need to be ready for every game. When you don't play it's difficult, everybody wants to help the team but everybody keeps training hard and fighting to be in the team. That competition is what gives everyone in the team that extra percent."

Can’t just blame it on Son and Kane - our midfield has not controlled a game for most of the season - no one's making forward runs and the one time it happens in this game we score a (lucky) goal. Negative football - dull dull dull. Poch back?
