    Turkey 0-1 Italy

Italy have their tails up as they charge forward looking for a second and Lorenzo Insigne's shot is deflected over for a corner.

A second goal and there would surely be no way back for Turkey and it would be an eighth win in a row for Italy.

That wall of meat couldn't hold out. The ball popped out to the right hand side and Berrardi is such a threat. He takes the outside and fires the ball across and Demiral is in the middle of the goal facing his own goal and chests the ball into his own net. Heartbreaking for him but you can't say Italy haven't deserved it.

    Breakthrough!

Domenico Berardi has been such a danger throughout this game and he has a big hand in the opener, driving the ball across the face of goal. He's looking for Ciro Immobile but Merih Demiral compounds to put it into his own net as he tries to cut it out.

    The Italy fans are rocking!

    Turkey 0-0 Italy

As the game gets under way Cengiz Under does what he was brought on for, breaking quickly up the pitch. He has no support so takes a shot but Leonardo Spinazzola gets enough of a block on it to take some of the sting out of the effort and Gianluigi Donnarumma saves.

Umut Meras is needing a bit of treatment. He's down on the pitch and appears to have hurt his back but eventually he is able to hobble off the pitch.

Nothing to worry england in that first half. I can't see any outcome other than victory this year for England. Football's coming home!

    Italy 0-0 Turkey

    Micah Richards
Former Man City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Italy have been very comfortable. We're used to Italian teams dropping deep then having that bit of quality. They've dictated play and they've had some great players in the past. I think it's too hard to say after 45mins. Don't forget it's the opening night of a tournament and there's still a lot of nerves going on.

I don't want to say too much for the first game. They look convincing, they look very good. They just need something up front. They've been very good but this Turkey side have dropped too deep. In the second half I'm expecting Turkey to push up the pitch a little bit more then we'll see some gaps open up and hopefully a goal for either side.

  10. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Turkey 0-0 Italy

Both sides make a change for the second half as Giovanni Di Lorenzo comes on for Alessandro Florenzi for Italy, while Cengiz Ünder is on for Yusuf Yazici in a change in attack for Turkey.

    We are back under way.

  11. Italy better tacticallypublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 11 June 2021

    Turkey 0-0 Italy

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BBC One

Turkey have found it hard to get out and Burak Yilmaz has been isolated.

They are deep and behind the ball, when they do get it there is no threat.

Italy have got this game sewn up tactically but they need that cutting edge.

Giorgio Chiellini did not have to do much for the header but it was a fantastic save from the goalkeeper.

  12. Turkey like a 'wall of meat'published at 21:00 British Summer Time 11 June 2021

'Wall of meat' is a perfect description for Turkey. They have been a wall of meat, like a big rump steak. 'Go on get through it'.

    Cesc Fabregas

Jorginho is dictating the tempo. He is at the heart of everything. Italy are missing Marco Verratti but defensively and offensively, Jorginho is getting into good positions and recovering a lot of balls.

    Turkey 0-0 Italy

    Micah Richards
Former Man City defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

This is international football. It's not going to be like the Premier League where we see it end to end every time. We've had a great half of football. No goals, but some great defensive work.

  16. Italy passing impressivepublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 11 June 2021

    Turkey 0-0 Italy

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

Italy have been the much better team, it is just up until the 18 yards box where they have lacked the final pass or finish.

I have been impressed with how they have passed it around.

Lorenzo Insigne had the best chance but could not get enough bend on his strike.

Turkey are concentrating that much on defending and getting men back, there is hardly any space and have to work so hard when they do get the ball.

There is no support for Burak Yilmaz up top but when they have been brave and got the ball in behind, they have caused some problems.

Rocky Gill: The slow pace of the game suiting Italy who have had good chances & by far the better team. However, Turkey have shown them too much respect & need to attack their aged defence. Pick up the pace & attack the flanks!

Cam: Locatelli observations: Struggles in tight spaces - Receiving on the half turn, poor - Positionally effective so far: tactically sound.

Rhys: Like to see Chiesa come on second half at some point he’s an absolute quality player.

Yokusli's arm is out from his body and it does hit him on the hand. It's not an unnatural position but I think it's dismissed because the distance the ball travelled - it was so close only a yard or two away but Italy might feel hard done by there.

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 11 June 2021

A ball into the Turkey box appears to hit Okay Yokuslu's hand. Italy's players scream for a penalty, VAR has a check but nothing is given.

They are not happy with that one as the whistle goes for half time.

This was another big chance for Italy. You'd expect Lorenzo Insigne to at least get it on target.
