Early signs that Italy are going to be dangerous from set pieces - you don't want to give Giorgio Chiellini too many chances like those, unmarked, nobody anywhere near him - it was a free header but a top save.

Kenan Karaman looks for Burak Yilmaz as Turkey threaten a rare attack but Yilmaz is offside and knows it.

    Turkey 0-0 Italy

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Turkey have no pace and Italy are really pressing them high. They are being brave. You could say Turkey are parking the bus.

    Turkey 0-0 Italy

You can see from the early heatmap how difficult Turkey (left pic) have found it to make any progress into the Italy half.

The Azzurri, meanwhile, are controlling the centre of the pitch.

Chelsea's Jorginho has completed 17 of his 19 passes so far, while Inter Milan's Nicolo Barella has 15 from 17.

Cam: Turkey clearly looking to play direct to Karajan on the right.... No success as yet.

Paul White: Lovely one-two there. Insigne looks useful. Quick and skilful. Reminds me of Arjen Robben in his Chelsea day.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 23 mins

    Turkey 0-0 Italy

Ugurcan Cakir gets his fingers to Giorgio Chiellini's header from a corner to tip the ball over the bar. Big save!

Italy are not so much knocking on the door but almost kicking it down at the moment.

    Chance after chance.

I don't know what Italian is for mind the windows, but that was optimism to the extreme and about 20 yards wide of the Turkey goal.

Turkey just cannot get up the pitch and it's a problem for them.

  8. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 21 mins

    Turkey 0-0 Italy

Lovely footwork from Ciro Immobile to get away from danger just outside the box and he thumps an effort goalwards. The ball slams against Caglar Soyuncu, there's a suggestion of a possible handball but it looks to hit the Leicester defender's thigh.

Leonardo Bonucci comes forward and fancies his luck from range. He gets good power behind his shot but not the accuracy as the ball flies wide of the upright.

  10. 'Insigne not clinical enough'published at 20:20 British Summer Time 11 June 2021

    Turkey 0-0 Italy

Really sharp play from Insigne off the left hand side. It's a give and go and the ball has rolled back to him, he drives inside the box and tries to bend the ball into the far corner but hits it far wide. A big opportunity for Italy and Insigne is just not clinical enough.

It's been a good start to the game - sometimes opening games can be quite slow and methodical and at times it will slip into that rhythm. But you can get a sense that the players are glad to have the fans back and they're feeding off that energy.

It will be interesting to see how the teams that are essentially playing at home will get on.

  12. CLOSE!published at 18 mins

    Turkey 0-0 Italy

    Should be 1-0!

A nice one-two opens up the Turkey defence and Lorenzo Insigne is in the area and unmarked. He tries to bend his shot into the far corner but there's too much on it and it goes wide.

Still, the way Italy are dominating this game there will surely be more chances to come.

Turkey are looking composed and dangerous, Italy stylish and relaxed. Both teams mirror images of their managers. Turkey to win this...

No surprise in the stats with Italy dominating possession and a sizeable amount of the play happening in Turkey's half.

Nicolò Barella runs into space in midfield before feeding Domenico Berardi but his shot from the edge of the box hits a Turkey player and loops into the air and into Ugurcan Cakir's hands.

Burak Yilmaz suddenly finds a fair amount of space down the right. He gets away before crossing into the area but he is unable to find a team-mate.

Then Italy are awarded a free kick when Hakan Calhanoglu fouls Nicolo Barella trying to win the ball.

Ten minutes in and there's only been that Ciro Immobile half chance of note so far.

Lots of possession for Italy but not many opportunities.

Yilmaz doesn't have great pace, he'll play on the shoulder and that's going to be intriguing - the golden oldie match-up with him and Chiellini. 71 years between the pair. But really clever with his movement and not far from getting in there.

It's taken both these teams a while to find their voices again, Roberto Mancini has definitely helped that for Italy. Bringing back Senol Gunes has obviously played a huge part for this young Turkish side to regain some confidence and find themselves where they are right now.

Burak Yilmaz has a sniff of an opportunity on the edge of the box but it is immediately snuffed out the alert Italy defence.
