    Yorkshire Pirlo indeed.

What a run that was from Kalvin Phillips and suddenly Croatia have it all to do.

Darren W: That’s why we call him the Yorkshire Pirlo.

Simon Atkins: Not a match to remember, but I don't think I care now we're winning!

Noel Fitzpatrick: With that run and assist from Phillips, I can picture Bielsa perched on his cooler with a big smile on his face.

England's goal comes just as we heard the first signs of impatience from the home supporters. Raheem Sterling repays Gareth Southgate's faith but another important contribution from Kalvin Phillips, who has been excellent.

Again, Kalvin Phillips, the best player of the first half, with a terrific run.

Raheem Sterling is great at running in behind defenders and it's a great finish.

Croatia have to come out now and that would suit England.

    Raheem Sterling

BREAKTHROUGH! Why would he take Raheem Sterling off?!

Oh this is superb from the man of the match so far Kalvin Phillips, he makes it happen by weaving through a couple of challenges and then slipping a pass into the box for Sterling.

The Manchester City man, who was quiet, springs up with a cool finish from eight yards out via a touch off the goalkeeper.

The Three Lions roar, so do the fans at Wembley.

Would Gareth Southgate take Harry Kane off for Dominic Calvert-Lewin?

Meanwhile, Jack Grealish is out for a trot down the touchline, surely he will be on for Raheem Sterling soon?

  7. CLOSE!published at 54 mins

    England 0-0 Croatia

Luka Modric does have a go with a rasping drive from long range but it is straight at Jordan Pickford.

The tide is starting to turn Croatia's way.

  8. 'England players look tired'published at 15:10 British Summer Time 13 June 2021

    England 0-0 Croatia

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

They haven't started this second half very brightly at the back, England.

Croatia started the match very well and then England upped the tempo. But I don't think England can up the tempo again - there are a lot of tired players out there.

Harry Kane has found it difficult today. It's just not happened for him.

Harry Kane with a rare touch of the ball 30 yards out, could have had a go, elects for a pass and the chance is lost.

    Have a go.

The crowd come to life as Phil Foden finds the ball on the right edge of the box but then groan loudly as it's played all the way back to the halfway line.

Thankfully Jordan Pickford's positioning was really good. He's probably not being spoken to by anyone, that's one of the big problems he's asking Kieran Trippier. Thankfully Pickford was alert to the situation with a good position right on the edge of his box.

So much time and space for Sime Vrsaljko to get a cross in from their right again.

Meanwhile, Kieran Trippier plays a blind header towards Jordan Pickford and a Croatia man almost sneaks in, but the Everton goalkeeper can smash it up field.

A few inside Wembley got a little nervous there.

    England 0-0 Croatia

    Jermaine Jenas
    Ex-Tottenham midfielder on BBC One

Harry Kane needs to find a way to get himself into the game. He's hardly had a kick so far, he needs to think about making some runs in behind. He's heavily marshalled and rightly so but you need your talisman in the game as much as possible.

A Chelsea battle this one, Mateo Kovacic is not backing out and goes sliding in on Mason Mason, catching the England player and Kovacic is into the book.

Mason quickly recovers and it back on his feet.

Croatia weathered the storm. The first 15-20 minutes were difficult for them and they came through that. I'm sure they will be shuffling the pack.

  17. CLOSE!published at 46 mins

    England 0-0 Croatia

Ivan Perisic quick out of the traps for Croatia, second in a footrace with John Stones but then chasing down Tyrone Mings.

This could have gone wrong as the Villa man's clearance strikes Perisic and loops towards goal, but Jordan Pickford has an easy catch in the end.

Tyrone Mings has been superb. We asked the question before the game 'will he be able to stand up to this pressure?'. He has not played in this type of high-profile game before in his career. But he has answered the critics. He's been tremendous in everything that he has done. He defends the box as good as anyone. He's got concentration and he's very confident. When he has had to play long at times, he hasn't been ashamed to do that.
