Netherlands v Czech Republic (17:00 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

More from Mario Melchiot on 5 Live: "I think the height is going to be the problem for the Netherlands. They have a lot of guys above 6ft. The Dutch side is not built on height, but on ability and skill. They don't have a target man at the moment, but they hope the Czech side will have a problem with Malen's quickness in the middle of the park."

Czech Republic coach Jaroslav Silhavy: "We are working effectively as a team and we will be an unpleasant opponent for them.

"We want to surprise them. "We cannot only defend. We need to go forward and threaten the opponent. We really need to concentrate."

The Czech Republic's flight to Hungary was delayed by a technical fault with the airplane door.

They had to train in Prague on Saturday before flying out later in the day.

"It was a slight complication but we reacted quickly and came up with a solution," boss Jaroslav Silhavy said. "We did all we could. Now we are just focusing on the game."

Netherlands v Czech Republic (17:00 BST)

    Amsterdam

The Netherlands are managed by Frank de Boer.

He only took charge in September but his reign has already been longer in terms of time and games than his Inter Milan and Crystal Palace jobs.

"What would be a success for this tournament? If we get to the last four, then we have done well," he said.

"Ultimately we want to be getting paraded down the canals [of Amsterdam] on a boat: that is the ultimate goal. We not only want to reach the final, but also to win it. Then the tournament is completely successful. We are now focusing only on the Czech Republic; we have a lot of work to do to deal with the Czechs."

  8. 'For Holland it starts now'published at 16:54 British Summer Time 27 June 2021

Netherlands v Czech Republic (17:00 BST)

    BBC World Service

Euro 88 winner Erwin Koeman: “We expected that we will win the three group games. For Holland it starts now, this Sunday. I think it will be a little more excitement because you know that if you win, you go on. If you lose, you go home.

"Normally, Holland is one of the favourites but if you compare us with Belgium or France, Italy – even England, I expect a lot from them – there are a lot of contenders who can win this tournament.

"But I think we are growing a little bit in the tournament. That’s a good thing. The Germans always do that. I hope that we can do that and go on maybe to the semi-finals.”

  11. 'Without Wijnaldum, the Dutch balance is gone'published at 16:50 British Summer Time 27 June 2021

Netherlands v Czech Republic (17:00 BST)

Former Netherlands defender Mario Melchiot on 5 Live: "Wijnaldum protects the defence when he plays for Liverpool but when it comes to the Netherlands, the way that we play, we look more at ourselves and then try to look at the opponent rather than the other way round.

"He plays more forward because he's the one that has been scoring a lot of goals. This was his position before he came to Liverpool. In the Netherlands he is a more forward thinking player, but at Liverpool he was more backwards. The Netherlands team without Wijnaldum, the balance is gone, it's finished, because who else is going to bring it?"

Netherlands v Czech Republic (17:00 BST)

    Izzy Christiansen
England and Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Wijnaldum is just a dream to watch. He's not playing for Liverpool anymore but it was thoroughly enjoyable watching him in the Premier League in that workhorse role. This tournament there has been talk of him being an unsung hero for the Netherlands and I love his relationship with Memphis Depay.

Depay is the kind of striker that drifts and creates space in unpredictable areas and Wijnaldum completely reads it and he just makes the run and he has three goals. A couple of them have just come from late runs in the box. He reads the game so well. He's a real key man for this Netherlands team.

Patrik Schick recorded six of the Czech Republic's nine shots on target in the group stage at Euro 2020, the highest percentage of any player for his team in the tournament (67%).

Memphis Depay has been directly involved in 13 goals in his past 10 appearances for the Netherlands (nine goals, four assists). Only Robert Lewandowski (12) attempted more shots than Depay (11) in the group stage.

Georginio Wijnaldum has scored 15 goals in 25 appearances for the Netherlands since the start of 2019, with no player scoring more for the country in that time.

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Denzel Dumfries has been my man of the moment, he's just fantastic. When I watch him play, he just gets forward at every opportunity and he's going there with purpose. He's scored, he's assisted and he's got great quality.

You look at this Netherlands team and some of the individual players are fantastic. You've got Wijnaldum and De Jong in the midfield, Dumfries and Weghorst up front, he's a handful!

I love this Dutch side. Obviously we're not familiar with the formation, but it's worked for them so far and I've enjoyed watching them.

Since winning Euro 88, the Netherlands have progressed from just two of their seven knockout stage games in the European Championship.

The Netherlands are looking to win their opening four games of a European Championship for only the second time, having last done so at Euro 2000.

This will be the first meeting between the sides since October 2015, when the Dutch were beaten 3-2 in a Euro 2016 qualifier.

Their last Euros meeting was a thriller in 2004, in which the Czechs came from two goals down to win 3-2, following an 88th-minute winner from Vladimir Smicer.

I hope our live texts have come on a bit since those days.

  19. Wijnaldum to wear rainbow armbandpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 27 June 2021

Netherlands v Czech Republic (17:00 BST)

Uefa has denied reports that it has banned rainbow flags from the stadium or fanzone today in Budapest.

Hungary recently brought in anti-LGBT legislation that has caused huge controversy around Europe.

"Uefa today informed the Hungarian Football Federation that rainbow-coloured symbols are not political and in line with UEFA’s #EqualGame campaign, which fights against all discrimination, including against the LGBTQI+ community, such flags will be allowed into the stadium," it said.

Dutch captain Georginio Wijnaldum will wear a special armband with a rainbow in support of the OneLove campaign today.

"By wearing this armband we want to emphasize that we stand for inclusiveness and connection," the midfielder said.

"We are against any form of exclusion and discrimination. We hope to support everyone who feels discriminated against across the world."
