That is what the Spanish needed. They've been knocking on the door this entire first half. They've created some really good chances and haven't put them away. This one is possibly the hardest of the lost. It falls nicely for Sarabia, gets the deflection and they needed that little bit of luck to get back on level terms. If it goes in at 1-1, it's about right.

No-one celebrated that equaliser more than Unai Simon.
Pablo Sarabia
That's more like it!
Spain level it up as Pablo Sarabia lashes home from about 10 yards after the keeper palms a shot into his path.
It's an instinctive finish and Sarabia celebrates with a salute.

Kevin Maltby: As a fellow goalkeeper, I feel Simón's pain. Croatia must love goals like this after the Neville/Robinson error in 2006.
Stew Herd: Yes terrible misjudgement from Simon - but I blame the defender for making the back pass on target.
Charlie: Spain really are their own worst enemy. Within 20 minutes they miss 2 sitters, and then their goalkeeper has an absolute nightmare. Shocking!

Great defending by Josko Gvardiol to deny Alvaro Morata a chance in the box. Morata is having one of those days. He should have scored with a header at 0-0 but got his angles all wrong.

Spain ae beginning to lose it. Koke goes in late and the referee tells hi to calm down. Croatia are starting to boss this after being on the back-foot for so long.

I'm in total shock. Croatia have just gathered, inevitably, so much momentum from that freak incident and all the sudden we're seeing Modric get on the ball.
Croatia 1-0 Spain
Croatia lead but they have not had an attempt on target. Football, don't you just love it?
Croatia 1-0 Spain
Croatia are having a good spell of pressure. The Spanish defence fail to close down Mateo Kovacic and he digs out a shot from the edge of the box which fizzes narrowly over the bar.

Erik: Lots of good midfielders for Spain, but I cannot understand why Thiago doesn't start. And how can the ineffective Morata start game after game?
Croatia 1-0 Spain
Spain need to respond but they have gone off the boil since going behind.
A chance for Nikola Vlasic but he puts it into the side netting while under pressure.
